Rousimar Palhares replaces Luiz Cane against Yushin Okami

Quote:
Another day, another UFC injury.

Luiz Cane (12-4 MMA, 4-4 UFC), who was expected to make his middleweight debut at August's UFC 150 event, has been forced to withdraw from a planned matchup with Yushin Okami (26-7 MMA, 10-4 UFC) UFC officials today announced.

Stepping in for Cane is Brazilian submission ace Rousimar Palhares (14-3 MMA 7-3 UFC).

Featuring a lightweight title fight between current champ Benson Henderson and former title holder, "UFC 150: Henderson vs. Edgar II" takes place Aug. 11 at Denver's Pepsi Center. The evening's main card, which is expected to feature the new Palhares vs. Okami fight, airs on pay-per-view.

Palhares looks to rebound from a disappointing loss to Alan Belcher at May's UFC on FOX 3 event. "Toquinho" saw a three-fight win streak snapped when Belcher shucked off Palhares' signature leglock attacks and earned a first-round TKO in impressive ground-and-pound fashion.

Meanwhile, Okami looks to snap a two-fight win streak after dropping back-to-back outings against Tim Boetsch and Anderson Silva. While Okami was never a threat in the title fight with Silva, he was leading comfortably on the cards over Boetsch when "The Barbarian" launched a furious third-round come-from-behind assault.

I like this matchup. Wonder how Palhares is going to look in this fight against another top guy. Thoughts on how this will go?

Well this is the first bit of good news we've had this summer. This should be an entertaining and competitive battle.

Palhares vs. a top guy? Gee, I don't know how does all of his other fights against top guys go? He gets his ass kicked, now you take into the account his cardio sucks, his wrestling sucks, and he's a one dimensional fighter fighting in Denver, Okami will easily, easily, EASILY run through him, and stop him in the first.

Bring the thunder, Yushin, BRING IT!!!

Great fight, Okami has the wrestling and striking but I have no doubt that Palhares will grab him at some point, can Okami defend it?

Yushin is favorite, really needs to keep the distance though and try to make it a pure striking match IMO, doesn't even want to get put on the fence.

A shocking prediction and so odd coming from LyotoLegion.

It will be an entertaining fight. Palhares always comes to finish. Yushin is a little overrated I think. He just hasn't looked that good for a while and he's coming off back to back ko losses.

Realistically let's look at this fight. Yushin has better wrestling and his striking is technically better. Palhares has superior bjj and more power in his strikes. The real issue I see here is pressure. Yushin does not respond well to pressure. He doesn't have that come from behind mentality. If he doesn't dominate from the beginning he tends to wilt. Palhares charges in. He is all about pressure and constant attacks. If Yushin doesn't take control early he could defeat himself.

It'll be a good test to see where both are mentally - since they both have mental issues in the cage - and skillwise. Either way it should be a good fight.

Odd in the ironic sense. I'm not amazed you didn't get it.

This is an interesting fight, I actually think Palhares will win it. Okami isn't that impressive to me and while he is skilled he doesn't have the aggressive killer mentality of a fighter. I can't see him finishing Palhares, but I think Rousimar will get a hold of his legs on multiple occasion and Okami may be forced to tap.

My money will be on the stump unfortunately. Okami is well rounded but not that great at anything. If Palhares can't get him down, which I think he will easily, he'll probably win by tko.

Still, war Okami!
