I thought most had Maynard winning the fight but after going to other websites it looks like Guida should have won. Just wanted to see what the general consensus was for this fight.

I thought Guida's performance was disgusting and an embarrassment to the sport. I gave him the first round for good counters but that's it. Last 4 rounds went to Maynard. Glad to see there were at least 2 competent judges to score it for Maynard. Anik and Florian can be on Guida's nuts all they want but there's more to just running away. You need to throw strikes too or at least grapple.

It was close, but the ref should have stepped in sooner with the point deductions. After the first 2 rounds I was getting frustrated myself just watching it. I'm all for sticking and moving, but you also have to engage your opponent. I was shocked, I never thought I'd see Guida fight like that.

Ethically, Clay won, Gray really didn't win a round. Clay won the first and second, I would also give him the fourth. The third and fifth were ten-ten rounds.

Morally, Gray won, Clay basically pissed off every person in that building, I think Dan Mirgilliato was close to pulling a double leg at one point.

Realistically, about 20 other LW's because this fight knocks Clay out of the top ten and drops Gray behind five or six other guys more worthy of a title. And I don't even think Maynard has even earned the right to fight a guy like Pettis, Alvarez, Melendez, or Diaz.

lol @ the Mirgilliato comment. But I think saying that this drops Gray very much is a little harsh. It's not his fault Guida played a game of keep away and Gray wasn't able to show much. Now does this put him in line for a number 1 contendership? I'd say no, but I think his placement in the top five hasn't moved at all.

I'm so glad Guida lost. I would've stopped watching the UFC if judges scored fight in favor of Guida after running the entire time. Guida didn't just lose a fight tonight, he lost the fans that adored him as well. His performance was cringe-worthy and an embarrassment to the UFC. He's lucky if Dana White doesn't cut him.

Way to live up to your username haha!

Also, this is Guida stand-up 101, tag and lap -> the only reason he was exciting against Gomi is because Gomi gassed by the 2nd round so Guida could pounce on him.

The only funny thing about this fight, is how people who praised Condit for having a amazing gameplan, slam Guida for having the exact gameplan from the exact same head coach.

I'm very disappointed with Guida. His strategy backfire big time with Maynard, the judges, and most importantly the fans. There is no one to blame here but his coaches, more specifically Greg Jackson. I think we all know by now Guida has no power behind his punches and his best chance is to tire his opponent out and then smother them on the ground. They knew that wasn't happening in this fight. As he gets older and the new crop of fighters get younger, it appears Guida's days in the UFC are counted.

Maynard clearly.

I don't blame him for shooting him the bird or cussing him out either, that shit's ridiculous.

Agreed again.

Never a huge Maynard fan. But loved how he had enough and just let Guida punch him in the face. It did nothing and Guida tried to desperately take him down...in turn he was stuffed bad and Maynard actually dropped for a guillotine...which I thought I would never see.

I respect guys who look to finish the fight. And have the fans in mind when they go out there.

There just like in other striking disciplines there should be a point fighting MMA league. Everyone who wants to win on touch the guy a couple more times and trying to steal rounds can fight over there. Anyone who wants to fight and finish fights can fight in the UFC.

That was Carlos Condit part 2... I'm sooooooo glad the ref finally stepped in a warned Guida and told him he actually he had to fight.... That is what needs to happen to get rid of this running away, throwing harmless jabs the whole fight crap....

Bottom line..Guida lost alot fans last night... Gray gained them all.... Eating those punches was great:thumb02:

Guida sucks and always had sucked. How people ever found him exciting is beyond me. He beat Pettis by literally laying on him for 3 rounds and barely avoiding getting subbed. He can't beat anyone who has decent wrestling cuz thats all he can do and hes not even that good at it.

I just wish we could take his cardio and give it to someone like bj penn who actually has talent and ability.

Maynard getting frustrated and eating shots was enough to convert me to become a fan of his. Guida was ass kissed by commentary all through the fight and his movement appeared to make him look better than he was imo. I had Maynard winning comfortably just b/c of how little Guida was doing and I thought Maynard was hitting better strikes and obviously caught him a few times to throw some harsh looking knees into the gut.

Guida looked more active than he was and Maynard just looked stronger, more composed and all round the better fighter. Guida could have done more in the striking department and btw this fight in no way replicates Diaz/Condit.

I gave up and turned off the TV partway into the 4th round. I scored it 3 0-0 rounds for being up there with Crocop vs. Mir as the most godawful fight I can remember seeing (not sure if it's the worst, since I've successfully forgotten several dreadfully bad fights). So from what I saw, a draw, and we all lost.

Maynard's reaction in the fourth was one of the best moments I've ever seen in the UFC. Instantly made me a Gray fan, which I find unexpected since he has been involved in a running series of fights with one of my faves, Frankie.

Guida is a ******* joke, and his game plan was not comparable to Condit's at all.

Rashad became a "boring" fighter after he got destroyed by Machida and realized his striking wasn't as good as he thought it was. It had nothing to do with Jackson, he knocked out Chuck and Forrest when he was with Jackson.

This is what happens when Greg Jackson gets his hands on fighters. He implements strategy. Condit, who is usually an exciting fighter who brings it, ran from Diaz.

Its no shock that GSP has not finished a fight in ages, its not that he cant, its that GJ stategy does not call for a finish.

Can GJ just keep away from exciting fighters?

It's close, but I had to give it to Gray based solely on the fact that Guida wasn't engaging and I'd never award a win to a guy who's refusing to fight in a fight. I thought technically Guida scored more points with his punches but that being said Gray controlled the ring and pushed the action more.

guida tried to be like condit.. but wasn't really able to tag and move in the same way.. i only remember condit running like that on 1 or 2 occasions, as where guida did it 4 or 5 times..

most of the time condit landed counters before circling as where guida rarely landed a counter and just circled every time maynard moved forward..

i gave the first to guida even though nothing really happened, and for the next two rounds i though guida landed more but kind of avoided the fight and never had octagon control.. then for the last two rounds i thought it could have gone either way and even though guida kept moving away it was still a much more engaging fight...

With bigger and bigger pay days, safe point fighting is the future of this sport. So get used to it now.
When hundreds of thousands and millions start being on the line, expect more and more guys to play it safe and try to win on points vs fighting to win. Just like lame wrestlers have been doing for years by laying on top of guys and praying for victory.

Just watched this and I scored it 50-40 for Maynard. I thought about scoring all 10-7's but then I thought of Kalib Starnes and then I couldn't get myself to do it.

It's like I always say, if all decisions were automatic draws there would be less fights without conclusions.
