Rashad contemplating drop to 185 pounds for fight with Anderson Silva

Quote:
Throughout his career, former UFC light heavyweight champ Rashad Evans has been labeled as an undersized fighter whose body was best suited for a run at 185 pounds rather than against larger adversaries. Of course, with a 17-2-1 record and wins over some of MMAís top names itís hard to argue against the notion Evans has done more than fine following his own lead instead of that of others.

However, while Evans still isnít wavering on his stance he has at least admitted he would drop to middleweight for a single scrap if circumstances dictated the possibility.

ďAnderson (Silva) is somebody I would love to fight because when itís all said and done, whether you win or lose, to compete against the best in the sport is really what itís all about,Ē said Evans in an interview with ProMMA Now. ďYou know, if I can walk away from my career and say I competed against some of the best in the sport in my time and era, then I can wrap up and say I had a really great career. So if the opportunity comes, and that fight happens, yeah I would drop to 185 to fight.Ē

Evans is currently healing up from an April outing against 205-pound champion Jon Jones while waiting for his next opponent to materialize. Meanwhile, Silva clearly has his hands full as well with a title-defense against Chael Sonnen slated for UFC 148.

As much as I like Rashad, I think Silva will kill him with his precision strikes. But if Rashad could do what Chael did in his first fight and power slam his way to the ground, anything can happen.

The only sad part about this decision, is Jon Jones words ringing in my head....with something along the lines of, "Once I beat Rashad, he'll have a lot of soul searching to do."

2. Dan "Hollywood" Henderson
3. George "Rush" St Pierre

I think Rashad would make a good opponent, but I think his fight ends like the others would, with Anderson Silva's hand raised.

If Rashad comes in with a smart gameplan and sticks to it, he will leave with the belt.

I hold Judgement on this untill I see how 37yr old Silva performs in the Octagon this year... I mean not only is he old, but he's been doing this for almost 16 years...

I think Anderson would win by knees in that fight. But I do think Rashad would be a good opponent for him. Even if Sonnen were to win, that would be a good fight.

If he could make the weight well and not lose cardio he should defiantly do it.

I'd like him vs. Belfort and then challenge for the title should he win.

Do you think it would have worked? I'm asking honestly. What wrestler besides JBJ has taken Machida down?
