Phil Davis vs. Wagner Prado official for August's UFC on FOX 4 event
A light heavyweight matchup between top prospect Phil Davis (9-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) and promotional newcomer Wagner Prado (7-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) is now official for UFC on FOX 4.
Davis was originally expected to face Chad Griggs on the card, but "The Grave Digger" was forced to withdraw due to injury.
MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) in May reported the switch, and UFC officials recently confirmed the new matchup.
Featuring a main event between Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and Brandon Vera, UFC on FOX 4 takes place Aug. 4 at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The main card airs on FOX, while prelims are expected to air on FUEL TV and stream on Facebook.
Davis vs. Prado takes place in the preliminary portion of the card.
Prado brings an undefeated resume to the octagon with five of his seven wins coming in the first round. A member of Team Nogueira, he has been a regular on the Brazilian MMA scene, and UFC on FOX 4 serves as his first big-show experience.
Welcoming him is Davis, who most recently suffered his first professional setback with a decision loss to Rashad Evans at UFC on FOX 2. The former NCAA champ was for the first time in his octagon career unable to dominate with his wrestling and was outstruck in the standup portion of the fight.
Prior to that, Davis had marched through the 205-pound division with five straight wins over such opponents as Brian Stann, Alexander Gustafsson, Tim Boetsch and Antonio Rogerio Nogueira.

Not familiar with Prado, anyone have any info? Seems like he's being fed to the sharks but I know better than to make assumptions on Brazilian fighters in good camps. Really want to see how Phil looks this time out and if he's a little more comfortable standing and transitioning.

I never seen Prado fight, but I'm going to go out on a limb and say he beats Davis. Davis isn't very good and being an undefeated Brazilian from a Nog camp sounds like he could be decent.

Is the LHW division really this bad? The man lost to the number one contender, and had he won would have been the next big LHW star. However he is now facing a relativity unknown which does nothing but pad his record if he wins.

Really bad match making by Joe Silva here ... Davis deserves a top 10 like Shogun, Rampage etc., not back down to the entry level.

I love your subtle sarcasm.
Davis is in trouble because this guy trains with nog

So 5-1 in the UFC, 9-1 overall with two wins over top 10s (Lil nog and Gustaf) and his only loss coming to the #2 LHW in the world should be fighting newcomers. Because you don't like his striking. Ok.
Styles don't dictate the ladder, wins do.

I agree with you that his wins dictate where he stands on the ladder, but I think it would be better for him if he didn't fight a top guy at the moment, so he has the time to refine his skills, in particular his striking which is pretty sloppy. It doesn't need to be a newcomer though, some Top 10-15 guy would do to test any adjustments under fighting conditions.
