UFC's Jon Jones On Fighting Anderson Silva: We Could Lose Sponsorships

Quote:
"It's not that he won't fight me or I won't fight him. To be dead honest, it's that we both have a lot to lose and we both respect each other a lot and we both are striving for personal greatness. I don't want to crack on his greatness and I don't want him cracking on my greatness.

"We're in completely different weight classes. We both have sponsor deals and things that are really important to us and a big part of that sponsorship package is being a winning-being a champion. Having us fight each other means one of our championships goes away.

"I respect Anderson Silva so much that I don't want to be the guy to beat him. I don't want to lose to him either. It's a lose-lose situation for me."

I'll tell you right now JBJ does want to fight Anderson (he's a young rising star and he's already stated it I believe in an interview or inferred it), but I'm not sure if Anderson will.

Honestly though after seeing Chael take Anderson down as he'd put it..."it would be a big problem." JBJ has devastating GNP.

I think the UFC will offer both $1 million a piece for the biggest match in history down the line. It's up for them to take it.

What I'd really like to see is Anderson beat both GSP and JBJ. How crazy would that be. Just a triple exclamation mark on his ABSOLUTE RULE.

The only difference is chael is a free style wrestler while jones prefers olympic/greco roman wrestling.

It would be very interesting to see though. Jones doesn't like being on the inside but to get silva down, thats what you have to do. We also saw the success machida had standing with jones, which raises questions about how he would deal with silva.

I still wanna see jones face machida again :P

I can kinda see what Jon means. He looks up to and really loves the legacy of Anderson. If they fight either his or Anderson's legacy gets a spot on it. I completely understand him not wanting to be involved with a loss to Anderson and in turn he doesnt want to be beat by him either.

That comment speaks volumes. He knows he has the capability to beat The Chosen One and he also knows that if anyone is to beat him it would be The Chosen One.

Yah I definitely want to see Machida get back into title contention again.

I've had a few smiles this morning but this made me laugh.

The one fight that would make me an Anderson Silva fan for life.

If ever there was anybody that needed some matrix sh*t thrown on'em.....

It's all about that paper.

I don't believe they should fight anyway, if one of them wanted to move up/down to obtain two belts then fine, but don't fight a considerably bigger guy just because people want to see it.

Jones is LHW champ going on HW fighter, Silva is long time MW Champ who at 37 would be wise to stay where he is. Personally, I saw all I needed to see in Silva's two fights at LHW, P4P he's a better fighter than Jones and I do not need to see them fight.

Do want to see Jones dabble in HW though.

I find that when a guy prefaces a statement with something along the lines of the above bolded, it often means that he's about to tell you a lie.

However, in this case what he said seems perfectly reasonable, and gratifyingly candid.

I suspect there is an (obscene) amount of $$ that AS and JBJ would agree to fight for.
However, since it's obvious that neither guy would be willing to put his belt on the line (meaning a catch-weight), the fight would be meaningless from a legacy POV.

So, as both have stated on numerous occasions now-

Not. Gonna'. Happen.
