He still needs to beat a contender, not a grossly overrated one dimensional can crusher.
But since he did end the Palhares hype train, I'll root for him as long as he doesn't fight Weidman or Chael.

Which contenders aren't one dimensional grossly overrated can crushers?
I find it troubling for a man who isn't good enough for Bisping now wants Silva. If Alan Belcher wants to move up to the next level he should call out Luke Rockhold or Jacare Souza and fight for Strikeforce for a couple months. He's three fights away from a title shot anyways.

I love Belcher, but he has a little more work to do before he gets a title shot due to his injury layoff.
He is on a 4 fight win streak so I think a win over a top ten opponant would be enough. His last 4 wins have been impressive finishes over tough guys. Not top ten guys, but tough guys.
IMO it should be a 6 fight win streak. I think he did enough for the decision over Akiyama.
Boetsch may jump ahead of the line if he has an impressive win over Lombard.
Personally I think the UFC is giving the next title shot to the winner of Boetsch /Lombard and are praying for Lombard to win that fight.
They will promote it by stating the two fighters long win streaks and stating something has to give.

I think you're right. And if somehow Boetsch wins that fight, I think the UFC will set up a #1 contenders between someone else. I don't think they'll give Boetsch a title shot yet.

I disagree, I think if anything they would love for it to happen again where another orgs best and strongest can't compete in the UFC. Although Anderson Silva and a couple others are the exception to the rule.

Anderson, Sonnen, Weidman, Munoz, Belcher, Bisping, Vitor, Boestch, Okami, and Lombard aren't one dimensional.
The only other guy besides Palhares whose a title contender that could be called one dimensional is Stann and he's not really close to a title shot and no one is certainly calling for him to get one like they were with Palhares.
Belcher doesn't need to move over to Strikeforce or fight Rockhold or Jacare either, the Middleweight division is pretty simple, Anderson, Weidman, Lombard/Boestch winner, and Vitor all need fights, my guess is if Lombard wins, we see Weidman/Belcher for a title shot, if Boestch wins, we see Boestch vs. Belcher.

You're looking too far into it.
I doubt they are that concerned with how Lombard looks in the UFC. He is a UFC fighter now. He is theres. He has an exciting style. You are delusional if you think they would rather try to promote Tim Boetsch over a guy like Lombard who is easy to market and will make them more money.
It is a bussiness. They set Lombard up with a very winnable matchup and will gladly slide him into fight Silva with only 1 UFC win. Because it will sell the most out of any logical MW title fight right now.

Two words: Ranking System.
The UFC needs there own ranking system so there is always a clear cut number one contender that will fight for the title.
Problem is they don't want to adopt one because that would stop them from having all control in creating the match-ups they want for more 'exciting' fights in their eyes to sell more PPVs.
Sad that Dana and company want to legitimize MMA as a sport and have it in the Olympics but fail to create a basic ranking system that any other legitimate sport has.
