Im sure alot of us have seen interviews and hear comments from some fighters that have made us hate them as a person beyond fighting...

who & why?

i used to like marcus davis until he went on his win streak then started running his mouth about rap music and the new generation of kids growing up.. made him seem like a shitty person to talk to. Seemed like one of those stubborn people who wont let anyone or anything change the way they think.. even if their wrong

Have any fighters struck you as shitty humans outside of the sport? lol

I had never heard about this so I googled it and I have to say I pretty much agree with the Hand Grenade. White kids trying to adopt another culture is like a slap in the face to the people that raised them and the rap game, although popular with some, seems terribly idiotic and stereotypical to me.

Functionally illiterate people who don't have jobs shouting that they **** bitches, sling rocks, and drive lowriders in between drive by shootings seem very unconstructive to me but I'm old fashioned I guess.

To say he's a shitty person or that he's wrong because his opinion differs is nonsense. Not too mention children today are the most spoiled, self centered, protected generation with the least amount of work ethic or ambition in history makes me think that he's just about spot on with his assessment:thumb02:

As far as worst attitude outside of the ring I'd go with Joe Son since he rapes women with pistols and all that. Brendan Schaub is also a pretty serious asshat on a smaller level with his style of calling out aging fighters after they've declined.

hahaha i agree. Joe son has to be the worst. If only Hackney had finished him.

I've met quite a few fighters and sorta kinda gotten to know a few. Matt Hughes is among the very best.

The only bad one i ever met was ricco rodrigeuz. An obnoxious "gods gift to women" "do you know who I am" ass.

as for who comes across bad in the media... i vote for Karo Parisyan.

I think the reason Matt Hughes gets a lot of hate is because he's open about the fact he hunts, me personally being from North Carolina that really doesn't bother me at all but again....I'm from North Carolina so what do you expect.

I've actually heard Rampage is a nice guy, he flew this guy out to hang out with him at his house and play XBox Live with him.

The hunting has almost nothing to do with it. Shit I hunt, and hate the guy. People hated even before he was very open about hunting. In the earlier days of the UFC we didn't have that many facts about fighters or know about their lives and a lot of people still hated the guy.

But I'd like to throw Jake Ellenberger into this mix. From all the interviews i've seen of the guy, he just seems like a major dick head. Good fighter tho.

A fighter's attitude outside of the cage is a big factor in how much I like them. For example, nearly the entire Cesar Gracie camp are just wanks.

Also:

Junie Browning (isn't it obvious?)
Quinton Jackson
Melvin Guillard
Rob Emerson (Rich kid gangs)
I'm also just generally not fond of Overeem.

And what's a list like this without including Krazy Horse!

I say this every time an MMA fighter does something stupid, bad or illegal outside the cage, and everytime a fighter does something great and praise worthy outside the cage. I don't care.

I don't care what these guys do in their personal lives. That's entirely up to them and I will leave it up to them and respect them enough to mind my own business. All I care about is that an MMA fighter brings into the cage on fight night. If he does that, as far as I am concerned he is doing his job.

What they do and say on their own time is completely irrelevant to me. I am certainly not looking towards any of them for wordly advice or input on politics or world affairs. I just want them to fight and fight hard and fight fair.

I've always liked Hughes. His dad was an abusive prick. I don't hold him against it for fighting back. Who hasn't gone out with a 17 year old girl when they were 18? And he grew up on a farm... where they consistently slaughtered animals for food. It's not a stretch to think that they guy doesn't care about killing animals. He was raised doing it.

My dislike stems from meeting him as opposed to anything in his book. The way he treated my best friend pissed me the **** off. Hughes was his favorite fighter so I got tickets to an appearance in town, got Adam out of the hospital, and took him to see Hughes. And Hughes treated him like shit.

My favorite part? When Adam mentioned that he had been training for his mma debut before he got sick Hughes looked at him and said, "You wouldn't have made it anyway".

That was a dick thing to say.

He mentioned in his book that some drunken fan came up to him and Militech and told them that he was saving his money up so he could come train at the Militech camp for a month. Hughes mentioned Militech laughed and told the fan he wouldn't last a day. It was probably true but still a dick thing to tell someone. I'm sure he got told stuff like that all the time. Maybe he got sick of people telling him how they were going to be the next big thing. Maybe he just is an asshole.

Matt was way cool when I met him at the HIT Squad grand opening. He actually invited ppl from his message board to a bonfire on the Hughes family farm Im not trying to dispute anyone else's experience, but that was the coolest shit in the world hanging out with the champ. He was real down to earth.
