Anderson Silva wasn't the linear champion until after the first Sonnen fight IIRC, so i don't put much stock in those types of things.

i find that almost any new champion is met with a level of disregard until they have defended a few times.

I do not follow how Silva wouldntve been the lineal champion until the Sonnen fight. You did however send me a rather fun and enjoyable journey thru Wikipedia that after opening 10 new browsers and doing the math several ways I cannot attach the lineal title to Chael Sonnen. If you are correct, pleasetell me who beat who then beat who then lost Chael Sonnen who then lost Anderson to make that happen. Im not trying to be argumentative, Im really interested if this is possible.

read a thread about it before the first silva fight. can't find that, but a quick run down on lineal would be:

Chael Sonnen - 2008.11.05*

* Filho failed to make weight and it was declared a non title fight

i got confused in my last post and said linear instead of lineal. you seemed to understand that, but just wanted to clarify.

I see now. With Bustamante and Hendo and a few others bouncing around weight classes it was a hard track to follow thru Wikipedia. Im gonna take your word that youre probably right.
