Belcher hints at Belfort fight in Brazil

Alan Belcher sees himself on the cusp of competing for a shot at UFC middleweight champ Anderson Silva. Belcher has been pushing for a meeting with “The Spider,” but it would appear that “The Talent” needs to secure at least another top-notch win first before challenging for the belt.

While an official tilt hasn’t been revealed for Belcher’s next fight it at least appears he’s agreed to a bout in the coming months.

“My next fight will be the biggest of my career,” Belcher wrote. “I may be taking a trip down south, very south.”

Belcher recently went on record expressing interest in being a possible opponent for Vitor Belfort, who himself is returning from a hand injury. The notion of fighting “down south,” would seem to place Belcher on the UFC 153 card in October from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, providing Belfort the opportunity to fight in his native country once again if the match-up is indeed made.

Belcher has earned stoppage victories in each of his last four fights including a recent TKO finish of Rousimar Palhares.

This would be a great fight. Would really cement Belcher's status as a big contender if he wins too.

I would have to say Belcher wins, but realistically this fight could go either way. Belcher has a rock solid chin and is a huge MW. I think he would pressure Belfort and in Belforts fights it always seems if things are not going his way he folds.

Thank God after this fight maybe the nonsense of Belcher being top 10 and deserving a shot at the champ will stop. Belfort's boxing over the Talent MT. Oh and as far as Belfort foling under pressure that is old Belfort not the new and improved Belfort. I see this fight going like AJ vs. Vitor.

Good fight, very good fight. Belcher will test Vitor's mental capacity as he just keeps coming, Vitor will test Belcher's striking game and chin. If Vitor KO's you then so will A.Silva.

Belcher is a good fighter and all but I don't think any striker is going to be able to deal with Vitor aside from Anderson. I think Vitor would do well at LHW too. If he beats Vitor there's no denying him a title shot. It just doesn't feel likely.

Belcher is a good fighter. But in a stand up contest not many can beat Vitor's speed/power combo.

I think Belcher would need to pepper him with kicks and try to get him later in the fight.

I do think Belcher's a little overrated at the moment, beating Palhares is not that impressive he's always been an overrated can crusher, and beating Jason MacDonald or Patrick Cote isn't that impressive either, Vitor would be the ultimate test to see where he stacks up while Weidman and Boestch fight each other for a title shot.

I like Belcher but I don't think he has the chin for Vitor. As someone else already said Anderson is likely the only guy in the division that can stand with Vitor for any amount of time. Belcher isn't a power wrestler who can smother Vitor and keep him on his back unfortunately for him.

I see a KO victory for Vitor in this one, styles make fights and this matchup is not favorable for Mr. Belcher.
