John McCarthy Overrated???

I'm begganing to think so! I'm not trying to bash John McCarthy or anything like that. I just want to know why he is getting all this hype? What did he do that was so special. The only excuse I've been hearing is that he let Tito/Ken 3 go a little longer then Tito/Ken 2. Also, he came up with the phrase, Let's get it on.

When I see John McCarthy I see a man officiating! That is no different from Herb Dean and Steve Mazagatti. So what I want you guys to do is tell me why he is the best? Also, try to do this without telling me how much Herb Dean Sucks because that is a big load of bullsh*t! You can compare Herb's style with Big John's and say why you think John is better. Just don't use this as an excuse to bash Herb Dean! That's all I ask!

You forget that this isn't just some brutal sport where everyones out to kill each other. Its much more like a game of physical chess.-looney liam

He's the daddy.

He just has the skill needed to ref, i mean he's not perfect, but he's the best in the business, he makes more right desicions and understands the game very well. Although i do feel sometimes he stands up fights/ lets them stay on the floor to favour the most popular fighter.

But overall he's the best ref in the MMA business, and remember this is much harder to ref than boxing or JJ as there is so much more going on

I don't know too much about officiating....but I think it has more to do with the fact that he has been around since the beginning. He's seen it all and has been around longer then Dana, Goldberg, Rogan evan ZUFFA.

I remember when I first saw him I thought he was a bouncer or a Local tough Guy or something like that. Had no idea he was a cop and a real martial arts guy.

He looks like he could play a goon on the Sopranos. Put him in a sweat suit, give him a pinkie ring. lol

On a seriouse note......I have noticed that when certian Fighters lose (Franklin, Hughes) he did not look happy, ex. after the Silva fight. And when Certian fighters win Big John is practicly celebrating. (Lidell, Franklin, Hughes, Serra)

I don't think he is bias at all, I do believe he calls it fair for everyone. But he should learn to control his emotions, so should Dana for that matter. I never seen this from Herb, Steve or Mario.

My only knock on Big John

It just wouldn't be the UFC without Big John. I can't ever remember when he wasn't around and I watched UFC 1 live!

I also wonder how tough he is. He certainly looks like a guy I'd never want to mess with. Yikes.

I think he's overrated as a ref but he's a cool guy and belongs in the UFC. He's been there since day 1 and i appreciate him but he always calls fights too early now, and has ever since UFC started getting more mainstream

What a stud
