Patchy record? Find a higher quality list of 26 fights on someone's record.

And when judging how tough Shogun is, you prioritize the Jones fight... As you should, because that fight is one of the most brutal displays of toughness in recent years.

Oh but he tapped the mat after the ref called it off, he must be a total *****...Oh but he 'ducked' Glover, Shogun is a *****... Would Shogun be getting a title shot if he beat Glover this weekend? I doubt it. Reckless abandon as to who you fight is great, but Shogun has nothing to prove and at this point in his career needs to start thinking about things more.

Accepting the Vera fight was a great business move, his motive for doing it has been realized, he will get a title shot providing he looks great. But sure, he just picked Vera through pure fear of Glover Teixeira... Some people on here don't have a clue.
I meant patchy record in the UFC. He's 4-4, with one of those 4 wins a terrible wheezefest over a 45 year old Coleman, and another a win over a retiree that got KOd the previous fight and next and then retired. His UFC record IS patchy.

Yes a win over Glover doesnt get him a title shot but a win over Brandon Vera does? Vera just lost 3 in a row and was almost cut before a boring win over a C level. How is that a better claim for a title shot? The only reason he's been promised a shot is Dana trying to sell this card as something of consequence.

When it comes to heart, yes the Bones fight was rough but the Forrest 1 and Coleman 2 fights were also bad displays of heart. One swingfest against Hendo is all anyone seems to remember though.

Shogun is good but nowhere near this pedestal Vera is putting him on and his fans do.

I don't think anyone is arguing that Shogun isn't a great fighter. But until recently he hasn't been on the receiving end of many beatings(relatively speaking). Everyone's body has an expiration date.

His brother took a serious beatdown from kharatop then lost a bad decision war with Rampage (sound familiar?) and he was never the same. He kept fighting and won a few but the energizer bunny has never been seen again.

Vera talks like he's the terminator/boogyman
I think fear is going to motivate Vera to kick his head off his shoulders.

He also gave us a destruction of Forest, a legendary fight with Machida, which he then avenged and served Machida his first lost in brutal fashion. And he gave us a great fight with Henderson.

Look at all the other top LHWs. Machida has now two brutal losses and a loss to Rampage.
Rampage has a loss to Forest, Evans, Jones and Bader and pathetic performances over Jardine and Hamill.

Randy was inconsistent at LHW. Chuck finished his career getting destroyed.

Little Nog was supposed to come in and tear up the division and work his way to the title. Now hes fallen off the map.

Shogun is no more inconsistent than anyone else thats not Jones.

And Vera has fought Mir, Couture, Sylvia, Werdum, Jones...etc, been in main events and is known. Glover hasn't ever beaten anyone worth mentioning and no one knows who he is. Thats a terrible fight for a former champion.

Coleman is a show of heart. Shogun was fresh off a surgery, which played a big factor considering after that he went out and wrecked Chuck and had a great fight with Machida. Bad knees and no gas tank and Shogun still went out there and kept coming and finished the fight. Thats what heart is.... I guess you don't know.

The only problem with the first Forest fight is thats when Forest actually had heart too. If you gas against someone like who Forest used to be, you're gonna get beat.

21-6 w/ 18 ko's? i would say out of all those fights 3 of them were lackluster performances by shogun. the rest were exciting fights which is why he has so many hardcore fans. as for this pedestal you speak of, he earned it by winning the PrideFC middleweight GP, something you obviously forgot.
