I really hoped that Herman would have kept it standing and slugged it out rather than initiate the clinch as he did the 1st round, i am far from saying the outcome of the fight would have been differednt i just feel Herman would have done more damage standing

Ludicrous gameplanning by Herman.

I couldn't believe what Herman was doing. It was Martin Kampmann fight IQ levels.
I don't even like Herman, but was yelling at him to break away and try and keep his distance and the fight on the feet. Even his team were telling him in between rounds 2 and 3 to stop grappling and clincing.

It seems like Herman just used that fight as a test to see where his grappling is really at.

I was also thinking wtf when Herman clinched but after thinking a bit more about it, maybe the gameplan wasn't as retarded as it seemed. The idea was probably that the fight was at altitude, Shields just jumped weightclass, lets try to gas him with a grueling fight. Plus the fact that Shields would not expect it to happen, sort of like when BJ took Fitch down.
Needless to say the plan failed.

Herman clinching was so stupid, he was connecting with Shields on the feet at the start of every round, Shields striking looked awful, but then slammed him against the cage, it was an awful gameplan.

Kampmann dominated Shields in the clinch and dropped him twice from there. He also did more damage while he was ontop for a minute than Shields did in the entire fight.

You must not have seen Herman's fights, his ground game is his "strength area" and his striking is just as poor as Jake's.
Did you think Ed had a reasonable expectation of stopping Jake via stand up or decision? B/C Hendo couldn't stop him peeps so I don't think Herman could have either.

Herman isn't nearly as good as a lot of people make him out to be.
