Like how Lauzon played the stand up game and dropped Melvin?
Or how about Jim Miller?
Fact is, Melvin is explosive and has power. But he is far from some top notch striker. And his chin is iffy.

I agree with you but Jim Miller nearly lost because he played the stand up game.
I see this fight going 2 ways.
Cerrone wins via UD/SUB
or
Guillard via rd 1 KO.
If guillard cant beat him in that first round it is because cowboy is out striking him. He IS a slow starter, so if melvin can get him early, he can win. If he doesn't, by the second round cowboy will have him timed and the range perfected and will pick him apart till he rocks him and subs him. I don't think cerrone will KO him because... Cerrone really just doesnt have that 1 punch ko power but what he does have is the ability to pick u apart and TKO you on the ground or submit you after you're rocked. In this case i think it will be RD 2, guillard gets rocked and then sub'd via any choke.

Melvin should get the win. He will outpoint Cerrone on the feet to ear a Unanimous Decision victory.

Didn't Guillard kick Miller's ass on the feet?
I seem to remember Guillard going for about 4 flying knees in about two minutes and ending up on the ground after he missed one, not because Millar put him there.
Either way throwing that many flying knees against a guy whose goal is to get you to the ground just shows how moronic Melvin is when he fights.

If Cerrone shows up with sharp MT, I see him busting Melvin up.
Cerrone: rnd 3 TKO.

My point was pretty much that standing with Guillard doesn't mean lights out. Jim Miller is tough but his striking is pretty ordinary. And like you said if you are going to be that wild you will eventually find yourself in a scramble. And Melvin is terrible on the ground or in scrambles.
Camoes just went 3 full rounds.
Jeremey Stephens went 3 full stand up rounds.
Other than Evan Dunham he has very few impressive wins. No one he has beat recently is remotely close to Cerrone's level of striking.
Melvin definatly has power. But I feel people confuse good with explosive/exciting striking.

That being said Donald strikes with his chin up high and he's been timed before against good strikers. He's got a good chin but.... if he plays that game with Melvin he will get knocked out.
Cerrone needs to go in and put Melvin away, IMO the longer the fight goes on if it's contested on the feet Cerrone is gonna be steeping closer and closer to a brutal K.O.
He has the tools to win. Let's see what his game plan is.

This. Cerrone is the better all around fighter but his preferences/tendencies mean that Guillard is very much a danger to him.
Melvin will undoubtedly want to bang. Donald needs to get the clinch, beat Melvin up a bit and take him down ASAP, he'll be laughing... Whether his pride gets in the way or not is another story.

I expect this fight to be entertaining while on the feet but sometime Cerrone's going to decide to hell with this and get Guillard to the ground, take his back and easily submit him.

I think Melvin has the standup advantage over just about anyone in the weight class, and probably some others as well. Unfortunately, it's not boxing or K-1.
The issue is, if Cerrone breathes on him funny, Melvin will fall down into a rear naked choke.
I want so bad to be a Melvin fan, but he is just so one sided a fighter I can't keep waiting for him to even out his abilities. I mean, really, if his coaches even let him throw one punch or kick during a training camp, they are doing him a disservice. He should spend 99% of every camp on the ground, on his back or with someone on his back. If not, he is wasting his time.
