Cain Not Happy-on JDS 'You Don't Get To Pick And Choose Who You Fight'

Quote:
Cain Velasquez is not a happy man. He's not the type of guy to come out and talk a bunch of trash, but he feels he has earned a chance to get his UFC heavyweight title back from Junior dos Santos, and can't understand why the fight hasn't been booked yet. The main problem is that Cigano still wants to fight Alistair Overeem, but he's suspended until December. Velasquez was granted a title shot in the meantime by Dana White but as time drags on, it's looking less and less likely. Cain was a guest on The MMA Hour with MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani yesterday, and he used logic to explain his side of things:

"You just have to fight the number one contender," Velasquez continued. "Then that's it. That just how I feel about it. As a champion, you just fight whoever is next in line. You don't get to pick and choose who you fight."

Velasquez (10-1) then addresses the major roadblock, Overeem, while still being respectful to the champ:

Quote:
"I don't think you as champion should choose who you fight. [Junior]'s not ducking me. He's a great competitor. He's a great fighter. I just think him and Overeem and him had some words spoken back and forth to each other and he wants to fight him. He really wants to fight him first, wants to beat him. But you gotta get through me first."

Quote:
"I know fans want to see that, but like I said before whoever is next in line, you have to fight him. You being the champion need to fight the guy next in line, not pick and choose who you fight."
He has a point. There's no reason why Cain and JDS couldn't have fought in October, and the winner gets Overeem when he returns. But, that doesn't look like how it's going to go down. Cain's final thought was about as close to trash talk as you'll hear from the soft-spoken former champion:

Quote:
"With whatever he's going through, I don't really care," Velasquez said. "I just know what I've done to get here. Whatever I was promised, I was promised. That's just how I see it."
Does Cain have a case here? Or is the UFC correct to go with the bigger fight in December, despite all the roadblocks with Overeem's licensing situation? I personally would like to see JDS/Overeem more, but I still think Cain got shafted and deserves the chance he was promised. As he said, the champion shouldn't get to choose who he fights.

What do you think? I think they should a title eliminator Overreem/Cain for a shot at the title. Not sure what JDS would do in the mean time though.

JDS can still fight Overeem once he's fought Cain. Overeem won't be able to fight this year anyway so why wait for him when Cain is able to go?

I don't feel that Cain has much of a case to make though. He was beaten viciously in a minute. Its hard to make a case for yourself off of one victory since. Let JDS destroy Overeem first.

Yeah, already beat him in 64 seconds, Overeem's suspended, please make JDS/Werdum II and get it over with, Cain doesn't deserve a rematch for crushing a guy coming off a loss.

JDS/Doom II is a good fight, however I just don't want to steam Doom steamrolled and facebroken again.

Cain is a Badass... But he doesn't have much ground to stand on here. He just beat a strikeforce can... And now wants a a shot back at the title versus the guy who KO'D him in the first rd less then a year ago

Even Chael had to fight two guys before he got his shot again with Andy, and he but a whoopin on him the first time...

Oveereem has alot belts in his corner, plus that big win over Brock the UFC wants to Market...

I think Cain and JDS II should happen before Overeem gets the title shot.

I know JDS beat Cain relatively easy in their first fight, but in the second fight I think if Cain can avoid JDS big shot he can make it an interesting fight.

I think JDS beats Cain in striking but I think Cain could land his share of strikes.

If Cain cant get JDS down then he loses. I still think if he cant get JDS down he can be competitive striking but I do not think he can do enough to win.

I'm down with the Werdum rematch, I just don't want JDS to wait for Overeem. He can fight Cain or Werdum or any other worthy opponent, take a month off, have a nice camp and then fight Overeem who will be ready by then.

Same reason I don't want to see Lyoto fight Jones is the same reason I don't want to see Cain fight JDS again...

I don't want to see rematches where the outcomes could be different either.
