You know I'm glad Vera finally got to showcase his heart. This is what everyone has been waiting for. When I wrote an article on the meteoric rise and falls of fighters in the UFC he along with Machida were on that list. Glad to see they've overcome their ups and downs.
Now Vera, just has to hone his talents and train consistently like the way he did against Shogun and he'll be a huge fan favorite again.

That was definately a ballsy performance by Vera. He had nothing to lose and everything to gain and he definately let it all hang out in this one. I've definately been an anti-Vera supporter over the years but have to give him all the credit in the world for fighting his heart out. He's obviously not a number one guy but could put on some entertaining fights with that same attitude.

I was hoping Vera would at least make it competitive and not get blown out in the opening 2 minutes. My wish came true, although I never really felt like Shogun was close to being finished, Vera kept coming back when I figured he was done. I was excited to see Vera show his heart even if he was overmatched by an underperforming Shogun. I would love to see him in a kickboxing match with some of the mid-tier divisional guys to see how that goes. Up and coming guys (perhaps above mid tier) like Te Huna as others have mentioned would be fun, but watch Joe Silva throw him in against Bader or another wrestling ace and the dream will be for not. I know it's MMA and not K-1, but sometimes a nice stand up war is gratifying.
