How did the commission let him fight with a fractured sternum? Wouldn't the pre fight checks catch that sort of thing? I suppose it may be possible he slipped by but sounds like an exagerrated bruise most likely like most of these excuses.

Shit, one reason I freaking LOVE Jake Shields. Tons of people hate the dude, but reporters had to suck it out of him that losing his father just before the jake ellenberger fight might have had a negative affect. A true fighter and man with self respect wouldn't be making these excuses Lombard is making.

I still like Lombard, but unfortunately he lost a few points in my eyes.
And i was just thinking..

You know how most of them say "But i couldnt let my fans down so i fought".

WHO IN THE ******* WORLD!! wants to see fights like Lombard-Tim. He would have done his fans a HUGE ******* FAVOR had he backed out and said he is injured. Most these fighters that makes excuses are usually making excuses cause of a lack luster loss. Dont ******* fight if your not fit enough to perform. Your not doing your fans or the UFC a favor by doing so.

Lombard should have better respect for his opponent than try to tarnish what Boetsch has accomplished, if you're injured then fine, what fighter DOESN'T fight injured. But it pisses on Tim's parade to just suggest fighting him injured is the ONLY way he could've won the fight.

Injury excuses are a bitches way out.

I know people who have fractured their sternum and said how they had trouble breathing, let alone go 15minutes with a fighter like Tim Boetsch!

Yeah it seems to me like people exaggerated their injuries like crazy. I still remember Rashad saying he went in to the Phil Davis fight with 2 or 3 broken ribs. I know people who fractured their rib and could hardly move and had problems sleeping. I just dont see how its humanly possible to fight with 2-3 broken ribs.

And whats with the pre fight physical fighters have to take. All these injuries couldnt possibly slip by. Fighters have to be making some of these up or over exaggerating. I know alot of people who injure their hand and go around claiming they broke it or broke their knuckes or they injure their foot and claim its broken. I wonder if fighters do the same thing. I dont see why not... it seems to be a human thing to try and look tough.

(Dont mind me. Im just thinking out loud-text)

I hate excuses, and don;t believe the Hector hype. But this does explain the fight a lot better and I do believe him.

Also for him to claim a fractured sternum, makes the Athletic Commission look like sh*t for clearing him to fight. But surely if Lombard turned out to be healthy and just had an 'off night' the Commission could take legal action for slander. As to clear a fighter a fractured sternum would be gross negligence on their part. So I personally wouldn't run that risk.

Bet Lombard just had an 'off night'.

I understand that but some injuries toughness isnt enough. Its one thing breaking a rib in the fight and pulling through cause of adrenaline and the fact that it takes a while after you get injured for the pain to fully come out due to a survival mechanism our body has in case you are in danger. But to walk into the octagon with a broken rib is on a whole different level.

I remember Ken Shamrock saying "If you broke a rib you would be on the floor gasping for air"

There is also a bunch of tough ****ers in my gym and iv seen tough sobs get put down with injuries half as serious as the injuries fighters throw out there after fights.

And other then Mike Tyson claiming he broke his back during the post fight interview im not sure there is any proof he did. Its extremely hard to believe and Mike Tyson wasnt very sane at the time. AND according to Mike Tyson it was the doctor who told him his back was broken. No way would he be cleared to fight if his back was broken... Logic tells me its Mike Tyson crazy talk. That doesn't mean it cant be true. Just that Logic leads me to believe that it isnt true.

When Stone Cold Steve Austin broke his neck in a wrestling match he could barely get the strength to crawl over and pin the guy. And Stone Cold is a tough sob too.

What he said and what he was thinking were most likely two different things.

What he was thinking was "I need the cash, I cant pull out of this fight"

Yep. My thoughts exactly. What kind of doctor allows a fighter to fight with a fractured sternum and a torn cartilage?

As you say, he may have hidden it from the doctors but I dont buy that either. If you go into a fight with severe injuries and lie about it, you run the risk of invalidating your insurance. There's no way the insurance company will happily pay for fixing injuries you covered up and went ahead an fought with.

In other words... I call bullshit. If he currently has these injuries I'm betting he got them during the fight.
