i didn't know that they were giving Weidman the next shot. we might as well pretend that Silva is ducking Michael Bisping.

2013 is only 3 1/2 months away.

So, I may be missing something, and I honestly didn't read every reply. But what's the storyline here?

It's 4 1/2 months till 2013.

The Champ really needs to be fighting more. What's the point of having a champion if he only fights once or twice a year, barring injury. Age or wanting to spend time with your family shouldn't be an excuse for inactivity.

The UFC is turning more into boxing everyday.

Actually, your boy Condit has fought at the beginning of the year and will be fighting at the end of the year, turning down all approaches by contenders to fight. If he fights in November he will have 9 months between his fights. Silva has fought in July, 9 months on that would be April next year.

But I agree in so far that if Silva hasn't the drive to defend his belt anymore, which is understandable as he has done it for six years now and probably is kind or bored of it now, he should put down the belt so he can fight whoever he wants.

Condit was gonna defend the interim title until Diaz got suspended so that's not entirely accurate. Condit's also not even the real Champion, he's just a glorified number one contender.

But he will be the real Champ after November 17th.

Anderson will not fight again in 2012!

Source: MMAWeekly

UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva is not planning on re-entering the Octagon again this year. Silva defeated Chael Sonnen in July to successfully defend his title once again.
"Anderson said he wants to take some time off until after the end of the this year," said UFC president Dana White during his post-press conference media scrum (thanks to MMAWeekly.com for transcribing). "We'll start talking to him."

White mentioned Chris Weidman as the likely choice for a meeting with Silva, but added, "He's going to have to wait or fight because Anderson's going to fight after the beginning of the year."

Hes not hurt, he just wants to take some time off.

I know Anderson has sort of earned this priveledge, but did he not have a long layoff before Sonnen II?

Could this be because he is waiting until after GSP fights Condit so he can fight GSP?

Could this mean Anderson may be contemplating retirement?

In all honesty if someone's age and wear and tear are making it hard to train for fights regularly, it's time to find a new job.

I do get the feeling he really does not want to fight Weidman.
It wasnt even that long ago his manager went out and made some public statement that made him seem like a giant *****.
