Anthony Pettis-Donald Cerrone Set To Be Title-Eliminator
Quote:
Source: MMAFighting
Anthony Pettis has been looking to secure his shot at the UFC lightweight title for several months now. However, before "Showtime" can do so, he'll have to get past new rival Donald Cerrone.
UFC president Dana White confirmed with MMAFighting.com that Cerrone and Pettis would serve as a title-eliminator bout.
"Yes," said White, following UFC 150: Henderson Vs. Edgar II Saturday night. "We're going to make it up to Pettis."
After entering the UFC, Pettis, the WEC lightweight champion, was positioned to face the winner of Frankie Edgar-Gray Maynard. The two, however, fought to a draw and a rematch was scheduled.
Not wanting to remain on the sidelines, Pettis took a bout with Clay Guida and was defeated. He has since defeated Joe Lauzon and position himself near the top of the pecking order again.
Cerrone, meanwhile, defeated Melvin Guillard Saturday night and has been calling out Pettis (15-2) for the past few weeks. "Cowboy" improved to 19-4 with his knockout victory over Guillard.
Current UFC lightweight champion Benson Henderson is headed for a match up with Nate Diaz for the belt. An exact date and location for either 155-pound fights is currently unknown.

So what about Nate Diaz?. He has beaten Cerrone already as well as Jim Miller and he has done it very impressively. Lets throw in the Gomi win for a bonus Im not sure there is a LW that looks better than Nate right now.
Im not a fan of the Diaz Bros, but I feel he has moved ahead of Pettis with his recent wins.
I wonder if Nate is being punished for the sins of Nick.
Not sure what Dana is thinking, Nate has clearly earned the next title shot.

I'm pretty sure Nate Diaz is fighting Bendo next.
The winner of Cerrone-Pettis will fight the winner of the Diaz-Bendo bout.
From the article you quoted:

Nate will still fight Bendo, the winner of Pettis/Cerrone fights the winner of that.
Even though Nate handed him his ass last time, I still feel Cowboy can beat him if he fights like Carlos did against Nick, a few fans may turn on him but if you're gonna turn on a guy because of one fight, you're not a real fan anyway.
But we all know what's up, Showtime is taking that belt in 2013.

I might be way off, but maybe Nate fights the winner of this?

Dude, Nate Diaz is fighting Benson Henderson for the title.
I can't wait for Pettis-Cerrone. Ever since Cowboy opened his mouth against Pettis i knew it was on. Both coming off from KO wins that started with a massive head kick. Can't wait!

So if Cerrone wins then he gets a re-match with Nate for the title?
Im not sure I would be interested in that fight right now. It is just to soon for that re-match. Nate clearly outclassed Cerrone in that fight and would probobly do it again.
If Nate wins then bringing Melendez from SF will not happen. There is no way they would fight each other. Those Ceasar Gracie guys are all butt buddies.
I would be more interested in Maynard/Diaz. It would be a grudge match as these two have unfinished business after their last fight that was controversial.

You don't have to worry though, Pettis is walking out as the winner.

Im sure that is what the UFC is strongly hoping, but what if he does'nt win? Cerrone beating Pettis is no way out of the realm of possibility.

Cerrone is a good striker but he's not an intelligent striker, that's the problem. You can be a beast but if you aren't intelligent then you won't reach your full fighting potential. Manhoef is a good example of this.
Pettis is a good striker but he's also an intelligent striker. He will adapt during the fight and be able to change his gameplan if need be. I see Pettis taking this 8/10 times.

They'll just do the rematch then.
Junior knocked Cain out in 64 seconds on FOX and that's not stopping them from doing JDS/Cain 2.
