In preparing for an opponent a fighter has to consider all of the threats posed by his/her adversary. However, when it comes to UFC light heavyweight champ Jon Jones’ upcoming title-defense against Dan Henderson it appears as though the 25-year old didn’t have to hit the books too hard based on the seasoned veteran’s singular attack.
“Dan Henderson’s a winner, an animal, a beast…but it’s no secret that Dan Henderson is a one-trick pony. He just has that power. Uppercut, overhand…when he touches people they go down,” said Jones in an interview with the UFC. “My objective is to not get hit at all.”
“When you put Dan Henderson against a guy who can wrestle against him, you’ve gotta throw his wrestling out the window,” he added.
While Jones plans on defusing Henderson’s trademark “H-Bomb” and any other similar strikes, the 16-1 champion believes he can inflict the sort of damage on “Hendo” he’s attempting to avoid himself.
“I feel very confident that I’m gonna be the first guy to TKO him,” explained Jones “Slowly, methodically, hitting one hit at a time until he decides his body is hurting and he wants the fight to be over. Nature will take its course.”
Jones-Henderson will meet in a little more than two weeks as the headlining tilt at UFC 151.

Not a fan but I at least realize that this is what MMA needs more of if they are going to crossover.I am sick of the vanilla stock responses especially from fighters that should start acting like larger than life champions..I dont know why its fans refuse to acknowledge this..Everything jones said was within the confines of the match at hand.Nothing about self grandioseness henderson's wife, or derogatory statement about ppl from California..

Strictly business yet this is the kind of attitude thats frowned upon? why? I dont get it

All people that decided to stand and trade with him. Shogun's chin got him to the point where his cardio was a bit better than Dan's. Point being that if you stand in front of him then he will catch you.

As for the one trick pony thing...I mean yeah its not the biggest compliment but people say that without saying it all the time. "Oh I just have to stuff the takedowns and I will have no problem"...translation They only have wrestling. Dont think the meaning behind it is any different just the phrase itself is not held in the most positive light.

I think some are failing to grasp what he meant by this. The one trick pony remark has nothing to do with who he beat, but by how he did it. Its true that he's a one trick pony, if he doesn't get the KO, he has nothing else going for him, at all. He has no TDD, hardly ever throws combinations and doesn't exactly have the best takedowns despite being an olympic wrestler.

Stop grasping at straws and making JBJ look like the bad guy again, what he says is nothing but true.

When Hendo used to land the H-bomb in earlier fights, I thought it was very fortunate and lucky. He almost telegraphs it and doesnt set it up with the right strikes. It is basic rudimentary striking but his opponents cant seem to avoid it.
Full respect to Hendo as he has shown it isnt a lucky punch and Jones better not underestimate this supposed one trick punch. If it lands then Jones could very well be tucked into bed and put asleep.

I'm looking forward to this fight. I'm a fan of Hendo, and believe that he has a legit chance at this win. JBJ better not discount the grappling, Hendo is a rassler not a wrestler, and balls is something that can't be quantified. That being said..............this is a big test for Hendo.Jones has youth and an awesome skill set of his own.

Dan Henderson a one trick pony?

Yes i would agree but...

If this one trick pony does land and JBJ doesn't get out of the way it's night night.

I cant tell you how many times we have heard this in the interviews saying all hendo has it the big right and he wont land it then next thing you know they are flat on their back with their eyes rolled back in their head.

Its almost like a pitcher throwing a knuckle ball. Its like your mesmerized buy it . you see it coming know its coming trained to hit it and know how to hit it but cant do anything about it.

However jones is a whole different beast. I think most likely he will win the fight although I will really be pulling for hendo and think he has a shot.

Hendos best chance at winning is to land his H-Bomb, but lets not forget Hendos wrestling which makes him a beastin the clinch and also allows him to keep the fight standing.

Lets also not forget that when he won a round against Anderson he did it by taking Anderson down and working GnP.

He may be a one trick pony, but it is one hell of a trick.

The X factor for me in this fight is out of the cage stuff. Hendo is a low key guy, while JBJ has had to spend time dealing with "other" stuff. But based on the pictures it appears he is using the gym to escape that stuff which could make him more of a monster.

Either way, JBJ should win this as long as he keeps Hendo at range and make him pay for coming inside.
