I was under the impression that people had issues with immediate rematches? The OP objects to rematches that are years apart as OHKO points out. That I cant agree with.

Way I see it, if there have been 2 or more fights between the original and the rematch, then it's all good in my book. I would happily see the same two dudes fight 5 times if they both consistently won all fights in-between... 5 times in a row would totally suck.

i'd like to see a few years between rematches so that there is an expectation that things might have changed. I really would hate to see Diaz fight Cowboy again so soon. i'm a Machida fan, but i would have liked to see someone get the next few fights against Jones.

I think the rematches were deserved bar this last one, i dont think Edgar had much justification - i had Henderson winning the first for sure, Edgar the second, but i honestly did not enjoy either fight much. All of the others had to happen...

You could still throw the loser into a contender fight to keep the division moving in every case though...

I think the OP is on bath salts.

So he doesn't think the Frankie/Maynard second fight should have happened? So Maynard undefeated, and a win over Frankie, and he's not allowed to get a title shot because he beat him years back? Does this make any bit of sense?

The rematches are happening because there was a Draw, tons of close fights, and the title has changed hands quite often.

You best believe if Anderson or GSP lost they would get a rematch. Cain is ramatching JDS. Bones is probably going to rematch Machida...going into that weekend they were giving the shot to the guy who looked the best. It would of been a rematch anyway you slice it. Vera, Bader, Shogun, Machida all would of been rematches for Jones. Anderson just rematched Sonnen. GSP has had rematches. Chuck had a bunch of rematches. Faber and Cruz almost went a 3rd time. The flyweights will all rematch eachother.

Not sure why you act like this is uncommon in any other weight class or era. There has always been rematches.

This is another way of saying you're sick of Frankie Edgar.

UFC has way too many rematches; they only work if they're warranted (like Brock pounding Mir but getting caught, Chael beating up Silva then getting caught, etc). Not poor judging and then an instant rematch

So in other words you would rather award rematches to guys who were finished rather than guys who were hosed by judges?

That is an odd way of thinking about it.

Lol, because winning the fight then getting finished from out of nowhere is the same thing as a one-sided finish.

No kidding, and it was only 2 years before, so it's not like it was that long ago. Seriously Brydon, you've had some good posts in the past, but you seriously don't think Edgar's first rematch with Maynard was justified? Maynard had a win over the champion, and in not even a close fight. It wasn't entertaining, but Maynard physically dominated him. Maynard was also undefeated while being 8-0 in the UFC. If winning 8 straight fights (10 overall), being undefeated in general, and having a dominant win over the current champion in the same promotion doesn't earn someone a title shot in your eyes, I wouldn't want to see you get Silva's job. If Edgar didn't fight Maynard, he would have been nothing more than a paper champion in my opinion. He would be the guy who has the title but won't fight a guy that dominated him in the same promotion who hasn't lost since thus making the "champion" number 2 in his division in the UFC which shouldn't ever be the case. Entertaining or not, Maynard had to go waaaay out of his way to prove he was the number one contender, and deserved that rematch. Him decisively beating top contender at the time, Kenny Florian, sealed the deal, and rightfully so.

someone once asked me when we talk about PrideFC why we never put
"the" in front of it, i asked him, "do you put the word 'the' in front of God?"

Who in their right mind doesn't want to see Pettis/Henderson II?
