Alan Belcher injured, says Belfort taking title fight is a 'blessing in disguise"

Vitor vs JBJ. Belcher vs Weidman. Sounds pretty damn good to me!

Now that the whole UFC 151 debacle is 24-hours removed and Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones has his next title defense lined up against Vitor Belfort at UFC 152 on Sept. 22, 2012, everything seems to be in order.

At least for the time being.

"The Phenom" receiving the surprise title shot at "Bones" was just part of the domino effect from yesterday's (Aug. 24, 2012) shocker that an injury to Dan Henderson forced the Olympian to pull out of his scheduled title fight against Jones on Sept. 1 in Las Vegas and Jones' subsequent refusal to take on late replacement Chael Sonnen.

That decision ultimately lead to the first outright cancellation of a UFC pay-per-view (PPV) event.

When Belfort took the fight, which he received after Lyoto Machida turned down his title shot against Jones, it left Alan Belcher's dance card empty for UFC 153 on Oct. 13 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The two scrappy middleweights were set to tango in a pivotal clash to determine who would inch closer to a potential shot at 185-pound king Anderson Silva.

Instead, Vitor gets an immediate title shot in a different weight class while Belcher gets the short end of the stick.

Or does he?

According to "The Talent's" Twitter account, Vitor taking the bout against "Bones" was a blessing in disguise for him. Here's why:

"Everyone's asking if I am mad at @Ufc @jonnybones @vitorbelfort answer is no. this is a blessing in disguise. I have a spinal fracture."

Belcher went on to reveal who he'd like to fight upon his return:

"With that being said and with much respect I'd like @Chrisweidmanufc or another top 5 on my return in November. Thx for all the support."

Everyone, including UFC president Dana White along with fans and fellow fighters alike, are furious with Jones' refusal to take on Sonnen on eight days notice. Belcher, on the other hand, doesn't share those same sentiments. And with good reason, as it seems "The Talent" may have been ready to call the fight off with Belfort in Brazil before all this went down.

Currently, Chris Weidman seems to be the front runner to get the next crack at dethroning "The Spider" from the top of the middleweight mountain. However, with no exact timeline for Silva's return, it may behoove Weidman to take a fight in the interim, or be forced to play a very long waiting game.

How about it, Maniacs, does a fight between Weidman and Belcher makes sense to you after all of these last minute changes? Both have impressive wins streaks going inside the Octagon and are without an opponent at the present time, so this seems like a logical match up, doesn't it?
