There is the loss of sponsorship as you mentioned for fighters that will be paid (and loss of an opportunity for fight bonuses). For fighters that have been moved to the next event, they'll have to pay for another training camp.

Either way these fighters will be disadvantaged by many thousands of dollars regardless of the alternative arrangements made.

Truth is UFC put together a shitty card where the co-main event fighters were lucky to get that spot. So what does Dana do? Offer Lyoto a fight who isn't on the country and then a middleweight who's a COMPLETELY different fighter for Jones but Dana says their the same f'n person pretty much (y'know, their wrestlers so they gotta fight the same way eh). Jones makes an individual decision and Dana and everybody acts like Jon, the world champion with everything to lose should've taken one for the team.

I'm not seeing the reason for hate as well.

Question though Jones vs SOnnen, will everything aside, don't you think Jon Jones would have won that fight easily. He really had nothing to lose IMO, he was ready for a fight in 8 days regardless of who the opponent is. You train for Dan Henderson, you know he trained some wrestling and he is a wrestler also.

Imo he had an easy fight, but backed out. He was willing to do it on the 22nd. But really its not like chael was preparing for JOn Jones.

But they are both in the same boat. Both Bones and Sonnen would have been facing an opponent they haven't trained for.

Quite frankly, if Jon Jones cant beat Sonnen under these circumstances, he doesn't deserve the belt.

To be clear, I dont hate Jon at all. Just disappointed a touch. I honestly expected him to grab the Sonnen fight with both hands.

I, like everyone else thought he would've destroyed Chael Sonnen but i can see where his coming from and that shouldn't warrant all the hate he is getting.

Whilst I agree jones would have won, anything can happen in mma.

I don't see how he had nothing to loose. Title, money, sponsorship and legacy. He had everything to loose and very little to gain.

If he had taken the fight and lost, the people moaning about him chickening out would have been saying he was stupid for taking the fight on short notice IMO.

Also jones and Jackson are vey much game plan fighters, this isn't just prepared for in a few days.

Actually Jon jones is in a better boat because he has just went through a 3 month training camp where he worked on all his skills. Skills that can be used against every opponent alive ever. And he was in better shape so can handle a 5 round fight.

Jon Jones boat was the titanic while Chael Sonnens boat was a little blow up boat i used last time i went camping.

I agree. But some people think Sonnen was ready to fight so I was giving that opinion the benefit of the doubt. Even considering that, I still agree that Bones would have been in a stronger position simply because of his impressive skill set.

yeah but that idea is really laughable.

Lets say for arguments sake that as soon as Henderson got injured the whole team got together to train Chael hoping that Dana was going to let him replace Henderson if Henderson backs out in the last minute.

(Sounds even worse when i type it all out haha)

That is still Chael training for 3 weeks compared to Jon Jones 10-12 weeks.

So Jones would still be in a boat far exceeding that of Chaels.

And yeah i agree with you completely.

I think Jones deserves some hate. Not for refusing to legitimize a sideshow fight, but mostly because of the hassle for the rest of the card, guys who don't get millions of dollars from Nike who have to scramble to make up for it.

Most of my hate is reserved for Dana though. Not only does he act like a clown (of course, thats standard for him anyway), but the UFC is the one responsible for putting these top-heavy cards together in the first place.

Lets not forget the main reason the card had to be cancelled in the first place; because everyone knew without question, that it was unwatchable without the Jones fight. Dana cancelled it because no one would have bought it without the main event.

There have been other cards that lost the main event. They weren't cancelled, because they were actually still sellable. This one obviously wasn't, and you can't blame Jones for that.

If the UFC wants to put all their eggs in one basket, this it the risk you run, so own up to it. If you put together a card that has more than one decent fight, you don't have this problem.

Oh, and btw, this is another one of things that boxing does that Dana has sworn over and over he would 'never' do, put up weak cards with one big fight on them.
