To get a job today you need either connections or education. Lets choose education for the purpose of this example.Education requires (time, energy, money, and sacrifice) similar to a figher. To get into the best school you need to do extremely well on test. Therefore If my aspiration is to attain a certain job (lets say physical therapist) I need to take certain classes. So in the long term yes I am getting paid to take classes.

Seriously?

Because this analogy doesn't paint the picture? Maybe you can suggest some real life experiences that would relate to the situation.

If not belittling analogy seems kind of retarded.

I'll give you a real life situation:

I'm the LHW champion of the world. I'm the best fighter in my organisation. I have never been in any trouble in any fight. I have defeated the last 4 champions with no trouble at all. I have the wingspan of a condor. My opponent drops out but I'm am fully trained and ready to go. I get offered a fight against a MW dude who I really dislike and has not had a full training camp.

And you compare the above to getting your exam switched at the end of an academic year.

Are you really expecting any serious debate?

Yep. At UFC 150 SOTN went to a fighter on the FX prelim card. At UFC 149 the FOTN and KOTN went to prelim fighters.

Very selfish move when the odds are stacked heavily in his favour. It's not like Chael was going to KO him, at the very worst it'd be a decision for Chael but even that is highly unlikely. It was a strong display of a weak mind and sheer cowardice from Jones.
he fought Shogun on six weeks notice, not two.

Honestly it’s hard to think of one you could follow. I think the last paragraph of your original post explains your confusion quite well. You have no experiences of professional responsibility to draw on for reference.

here’s an example that at first look might seem as off the wall as yours but will make more sense to those not immersed in academia.

I’m just a dumb ol’ construction worker so I’ll use that.

Say I’m a project manager for a big company. I’m building a 2 million dollar strip mall. If I finish in 16 weeks I get a huge bonus. For 14 weeks i have worked 7 days a week to make this happen.

My employer calls me after supper while I am calling subs trying to force the next day to happen and he tells me “Johnny has had a heart attack. I want you to drop the strip mall and take over the $20 million hospital renovation tomorrow.”

The Hospital renovation is late and over budget and nobody is going to be getting a bonus from it. If I don’t stay focused, the mall won’t be finished in time for a bonus.

Do you tell your employer “No thanks, I prepared for the strip mall. The strip mall will make me look good. The Hospital is a no win situation for me.”

….?

While that may seem abstract to you it is closer to the reality of this situation than the analogy that you used.

I hope it helps your confusion

This is actually a pretty good analogy. I refute my comments.
