Rowdy chimes in regards Bones vs Sonnen

http://www.espn.co.uk/ufc/sport/stor...l?CMP=OTC-RSS#

Quote:
Strikeforce women's bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey has told ESPN she "doesn't understand" why Jon Jones turned down the opportunity to fight Chael Sonnen on short notice at UFC 151.

Sonnen had offered to step in for the injured Dan Henderson in the light-heavyweight title fight in Las Vegas next Saturday, but Jones rejected, causing the first cancellation of an entire card in the UFC in 11 years.

Rousey, who says she classes herself as a friend of Jon Jones, was mystified by the decision. She told ESPN: "Mostly, I'd be more bummed with my coach, if I had that situation come up and my coach said anything else other than 'you're the world champion, you could beat anyone, anytime. Go do it', I would think 'why doesn't my coach have any confidence in me?' I don't know what Jon Jones' reasoning is, but I'd have made a different decision."

Rousey, who retained her title last weekend by beating Sarah Kaufman inside a minute with her trademark armbar finish, echoed the sentiments of Chael Sonnen and said she was sympathetic for the other fighters on the card who are no longer being paid to fight next weekend.

"I don't have any kids to provide for, if I come home with a bruised up face and a loss all I have to worry about is my own pride and my cable bill," she added. "When I was first starting out, when I really needed the money, the main event fell through and the whole event was cancelled and I know how that feels. I wouldn't want to do that to anybody else."

Rousey admitted that had she been aware the card was going to be cancelled she would have told UFC president Dana White that she wanted to fight instead.

"If Dana said he wanted me to fight Chris 'Cyborg' Santos with a 40lbs weight disadvantage or wrap our hands with Duck Tape and be there in 40 minutes, I'd say I'd be there in 10 minutes just so I could stretch first. It doesn't matter to me, I consider myself the best in the world. I think if you have that title, you have a responsibility to defend it at anytime against anyone."
Yea. What Ronda said.

In this case, yes (IMO). But my real point is that I dont see the need in standing up and clapping for Ronda for merely following the herd of sheep on this issue.

....but it's so much hotter coming from her (and still true). The Glasses kill me. Definitely working for her better than when Jones tried it.

The Jones stuff starts about 2:05

It seems as though many fighters wont challenge the UFC, and call it for what it is (understandably). Dana and the UFC can't always rely on someone to "Take one for the team" when the event is vulnerable of falling under. Yes it may be the morally right thing to do to help out the company that backed you for four years, but at the end of the day, Jon had to do whats best for himself. If the UFC card suffered, it's their responsibility, not Jon Jones.

I think its pretty telling when nearly all the comments from every fighter who isn't affiliated with JBJ is negative. I dont think it can be classified as "take one for the team" when they are asking you to do the same thing, at the same time, at the same place. Especially when we are talking about a guy who only got his title shot as an injury replacement.

Kind of ironic that since almost all the upcoming events are full 1 guy refusing to take a fight is gonna lead to almost everybody else on the card being put in a fight on short notice. Short notice being you get a call and you have a fight next week....not getting a call to fight on the same day you've been training weeks for already.

A fighter isn't one person though. I personally don't care about seeing Jon Jones be knocked out, but after this stuff I don't consider myself a fan. For a casual to MMA, having someone on the ranks who you aren't specifically a fan of, but you don't care about seeing get beat...is bad for business. Chael Sonnen Vs Anderson Silva generally was everyone wanting to see Chael lose. Everyone was interested. With Jon loses LOADS of fans over this, no one really cares to see him win or lose. THAT's when the "I have to do what's best for me" comes into it. His PPV buys WILL go down after this. Against Vitor you can expect something decent because Vitor is still a legend and in the immediate wake of things, there will be a few, like myself, hoping for a new LHW champion. But say Jones wins, and he fights someone like Gus next, with a lot of people not caring to watch him and Gus not having a HUGE fanbase, the buy rates will be pretty damn low I think.

Chael Sonnen, if he lost to JBJ, wouldn't have lost fans. Losing doesn't mean fans turn away from you. If you remain the same fighter they liked you for, then you won't lose fans because of a single loss. Had, somehow, Bones lost to Sonnen, his fans would have gave loads of respect to Sonnen, drew it down to underestimating and lack of correct preperation, and kept their eyes closley watching as he came back for the top spot. The way it was handled, people won't be that interested in anything he does after 152. His opponents will dictate the buy rates. He was so highly ranked because he was this greatly talented and dominant fighter. Now, he's ranked as this greatly talented fight ducker. The stigma has eased off a bit. He has lost fans because, as I said, his appearance CHANGED. He isn't what his fans bought into. It's like a political version of why Condit and Guida may have lost fans after their "gameplan" fights. People don't like fighters because they win. That's not being a fan, that's jumping on a bandwagon. When Machida lost his fights, he still remained in my favourite fighters. When Nick Diaz lost to Condit, he stayed as my GOAT fighter. When Anderson Silva got his ass handed to him by Sonnen, he still remained as the best fighter ever to step into the cage. When you CHANGE what people like about you, you lose fans. Jon Jones lost a lot of fans.

Yeah, I wrote a lot. So what. I'm still awesome. I'm going to play Undisputed 3. WAR VITOR!
