Vitor Belfort Joins Blackzilians; Rashad as Head Coach for UFC 152 Training Camp...

Let the games begin. With seven to one odds I could not pass. Already have money riding on "The Phenom." He's expected to lose so if he does no big deal, if he does win...it's time to get loaded! :P

Aug 25, 2012 - Vitor Belfort is officially a Blackzilian.

Authentic Sports Management announced Friday night that "The Phenom," who is now scheduled to fight Jon Jones for the UFC light heavyweight title at UFC 152 on Sept. 22, has officially joined the Blackzilian team in South Florida.

"This is the most important fight of my life, so the time is perfect to join [manager] Glenn Robinson and the Blackzilians and their world class training camp at JACO Hybrid Training Center in Delray Beach," Belfort stated in a press release. "I will have the best trainers and the top fighters in the sport including Alistair Overeem and Rashad Evans helping me prepare for this title fight. I will run my whole training camp at JACO and will win the belt for my fans, family and the Blackzilians in South Florida."

According to the release, Evans, who most recently lost to Jones at UFC 145, will serve as Belfort's head coach for this training camp. He will be assisted by Henri Hooft, Mario Sperry, Jorge Santiago and Marco and Flavius Silva.

"As one of the early champions in the UFC and one of the most popular fighters in the world today, it is an honor to call Vitor Belfort a Blackzilian," Robinson, the president of ASM, stated. "[On Thursday] it was announced that he will fight for the title at UFC 152. Everyone here at ASM will do whatever it takes to ensure he has the best training camp and exits the Octagon on September 22 as the new UFC light heavyweight champion."

Belfort (21-9) is coming off a first-round submission win over Anthony Johnson, another Blackzilian member, in January. He was scheduled to fight Wanderlei Silva in June before suffering a broken hand.

PS: Wonder if he's gonna counter and hire Anderson to help em train.

hopefully Vitor trains his ass off and Rashad can throw a few barbs in there to mess with Jones' head a little

Vitor sparring with Spong and working wrestling with Van Arsdale and Rashad. I like it.

Vitor training with a world class kickboxer instead of just training boxing can't be bad, even training with Rashad who knows Jones so much can't be bad. I might be one of the few but I actually think Vitor has the best chance of a flash knock out at least for the first 5 minutes before he crumbles mentally.

I think it's strange seeing as he just beat Anthony Johnson, now he's training with him.

But yeah, this setup should be good for him to at least challenge JBJ.

Why not? If they had a beef beforehand then they fought over it and that's that

This fight is so random, definitely interesting though. Jones runs backwards from attacks, if he's not landing shots from distance at a leisurely pace he's not comfortable and will then want a takedown.

Belfort excels at covering distance quickly while putting out a high amount of strikes. He can chase Jones down and land punches, but needs to retreat as soon as Jon tries to clinch.

The key to executing this strategy well is fitness. It is so tiring to chase Jon punching thin air. Then when Jones gets the takedown, your fatigue combined with his size and strength leaves you with little hope. Vitor is a great grappler, but so are Evans, Machida, Shogun, Jackson. It was just too taxing for them to put the amount of pressure on Jon required to beat him.

These are great training partners who will have some pearls of wisdom for Vitor, but if he doesn't get a first round stoppage then fitness will be the most useful thing to him.

Very perceptive. He doesn't throw singular punches and he can cover ground quickly in those power bursts. Just got done watching clips of his next opponent vs Rashad. Rashad landed some shots albiet single shots, but looked tired especially after the second. Going to review Machida later...

Training with Rashad and Melvin can give him some insight on the GJ training methods. Overeem will help significantly in the clinch game because he has the same guillotine that JBJ constantly threatens with.

Good, I think Vitor has as good a chance against Jones as any, and he is a fresh opponent. It will also open the division up an all with a Belfort win, fingers crossed.
