The reporter is just being a dick and he probably knows it.

Haters gonna hate...
Machida actually turned down the fight at 151 AND 152.

Dana said it at the press conference but like he said machida was in the air and he left a message so machida was in the airport when he declined it. For the record it was justifiable under his circumstances to turn down a fight on 8 days notice when he would be 2 just getting back to the us.

The game has simply changed. Top fighters now have a lot to lose financially; both in fight pay and endorsements.

And in the case of a fighter like Jones the potential losses are in the millions.

It's easy to criticize when you aren't the one taking the risk. It's disappointing the card was canceled but I don't blame Jones. Do you think Ali would have taken Frazier or Foreman on 8 days notice?

There is something a little bush league about asking your champion to change his opponent a week before the event.

The card had to be canceled was because no other fight could be legitimately passed off as a main event.

Machida was NOT scheduled to fight on that date. He didnt make a commitment to fight on that date, TRAIN 3 MONTHS!, and then cower out because there was a change in opponents.

What Machida did is completely understandable.

What Jon Jones did is embarrassing, selfish, cowardly, and down right unfair to the UFC. You say you are going to defend your title on that date and you do that.

Read what Machida said in response. He respects Jon Jones abilities and does not want to waste the oppertunitiy and insult him by accepting a fight at such short notice.

We all know that no one wants to see Machida, 0-2 against Jones, fight for a 3rd time. Makes no sense. Machida would be miles from a shot if he lost again. He wants to be 100% for this oppertunity and wants to make sure he gives it his all and that there is no excuses.

Jones IS 100%.

You think Sonnen represents the same challenge to Bones as Frazier and Foreman did to Ali?

Wow. What is going on around here lately?! Sonnen has *nothing* for Bones. Nothing at all. We all know this. For all our debating, I'm convinced even the biggest Sonnen fan knows Bones is the most horrible fight in the world for him. Even if Sonnen has had 3 weeks more *specific* preparation then Jones... I still rate his chances at next to zero.

That's why I personally consider Machida turning down a fight different. Bones is a MASSIVE threat to Lyoto. He's already choked him out brutally. Going in at anything less then 100% is suicide. This is why Sonnen ( as well as being a c*unt ) is a hardcore badass.

But for Bones to turn down Sonnen?... pathetic.

1.Well Sonnen is actually a weight class down and style wise an incredibly easy fight for Jones.

2. Yes ALI would have accepted it if he just finished training 3 months to fight Frazier and then he gets lucky and gets to fight an out of shape Foreman who hasnt been training and has no time to get in fight shape. Ali would probably have considered it a MUCH easier scenario and took the win home with him.

People that are still acting like taking the fight with Chael who isnt in a training camp is more dangerous instead of Dan Henderson who was are simply just trying to defend Jones choice with invalid reasoning. Lets not even talk about the fact that Dan style wise is a tougher match up. Chael can only win if he gets the decision. Which seeing as how he isnt in fight shape and its a 5 round fight, it isnt likely to happen. And Jon Jones would have been so much bigger then chael that based on Jones wrestling and size advantage he would have had no problem keeping Chael from taking him down. Hell he might have gotten a 1st round tko.

But honestly I think Machida gave up his #1 contender spot now. Because Henderson is still #1 contender and I bet you they make Machida fight Shogun next since there is plenty of time now.
