Anderson Silva reveals he didn’t want to finish Thales Leites at UFC 97

http://www.tatame.com/2012/08/29/And...tes-at-UFC-97?

Quote:
UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva hasn’t finished only two of his fights in the UFC. Against Demian Maia, at UFC 112, he spent the 25 minutes of the fight “playing around” the the BJJ expert. At UFC 97, the Thales Leites “survived” for five round, but that was Silva’s desire.
"O Lance” asked the middleweight champion if he had ever hold a fight to keep the pay-per-view on the air a little longer, and he said he didn’t want to finish Leites at UFC 97.
“There’s no such thing as holding back. I want to finish as soon as possible. The only time I did it was because he was a friend of mine. It was against Thales Leites. We went until the last round because he’s a friend of mine and I respect him”, Anderson said.
As if it wasn't obvious.

I don't buy it. You don't want to finish your friend, so you spend 5 rounds making him look like an absolute embarrassment to the sport? Anderson didn't exactly treat Thales with 'respect' in that fight. His mannerisms, language, and general conduct seemed to point to exactly the opposite (ie. he treated Thales like a bitch).

Yea... I have to agree. He treated him with marginally more respect then Maia, but that's not saying much.

Agreed with Canadian. He was more annoyed that the dude was turning into a hermet crab every time they got close. Then he began making us all only ever remember the dude for getting turned into a bitch.

I think he's full of shit. The reason he didn't finish him was because TL would fall everytime he got tapped on the jaw so silva couldn't do any damage and silva didn't want to go to the ground against him.
