Anderson Silva: 'A Lot Of People Thought I Was Gay'
"A lot of people thought I was gay," Anderson Silva admits.
It has been observed numerous times over the years that the middleweight champion has an unusually high-pitched voice for such an alpha male and Silva says that when he was a teenager, more than one person thought he was gay.
That probably wasn’t helped by the fact that until around the age of 14 he thought it was "normal" to allow his sister to dress him up with girl’s clothes and play with dolls.
"We would wear a dress, put on her shoes," the UFC champion tells Tatame with admirable frankness. "And because I am very vain about my appearance, and have a high voice, a lot of people were sure I was gay."
Silva is married to his wife Dayane of 15 years, and has five children (three sons and two daughters).
Tbh im not too surprised. Imagine what he sounded like before he hit puberty lol. And yeah obviously the fact that he used to let his sister dress him up in women clothing didnt help.
I actually recall recently there was that one black dude who was mad at Silva about what he wrote in his book. And he made fun of Silvas voice at a few parts of the video. I think his name is Jose "Pele" Landi if im correct.
Here is the video for anyone who has not seen it. Its interesting and the guy is a ******* nut.

For a guy who knows as much about MMA as you do, i'm really surprised you don't know who Pele is..
If history hasn't showed us voices like that means a lion in sheeps clothing. Think Mike Tyson... His fists are registered weapons of mass destruction!
This would have given Chael more ammo. Too bad he got KTFO!

ALSO check out his bareknuckle fight with Chuck
Yeah i really dont know much about the guy. But when i did see this video for the first time i went and looked him up. I was a bit surprised to find out that Jake Ellenberger knocked him out after watching such a video.
But yeah iv seen most of his youtube stuff since then.
Still i really have no info on him other then that he used to train with Silva. And he had his first mma fight almost 20 years ago.

Pele's record doesn't do him justice the same way Ken Shamrock's doesn't. Both have a lot of losses in the latter half of their career, but in their prime they were considered legends. From 1993-2001 Pele was wrecking everyone he faced, including guys like Miletich and Hughes. He was the original Chute Boxe star, and was a mentor of sorts to Wanderlei.
Back on topic though, I'm not surprised either. Silva's taste for pink shirts and earrings probably hasn't helped either.
Well, he showed he does not care about it no more and actually over used pink color during Sonnen's pre fight provocations just to send the message, with the support of his wife.

Pink is considered "girlie" in US only I guess. Rest of the world is very comfortable with that. We used to have lot of client visits and for the most formal occasions, I have seen folks from UK, France, Germany, Australia all prefer pink colors too. US doesn't agree for some reason :-)
If Anderson likes ping, it is generally accepted in their culture. We cannot set US culture as baseline to judge people from other cultures.
