Faber looking to fight by the end of the year

Quote:
What do you do when you've lost multiple title fights in multiple divisions spanning multiple promotions?

You dust yourself off, find the motivation to keep going, and try try again. And again.

That's the plan for former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) king Urijah Faber, who failed in his quest to win back the featherweight championship before that promotion merged with Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), where he failed to win the bantamweight championship. This according to his manager (via MMA Weekly):

"You're going to see Urijah fight probably by the end of the year. He'd like to compete one more time (this year) and earn his way back to the top. ... Now, they're a ways away from putting that fight (Faber vs. Dominick Cruz) together, but Urijah's going to do his best to get right back to the top."

Optimism is admirable but reality is cold and if it weren't for his drawing power at the box office, it's entirely possible we would be looking at Faber as nothing more than a gatekeeper, sad as that may be to say.

Actually, we could be looking at that now anyway.

Renan Barao used him as a stepping stone to bigger and better things at UFC 149 back on July 21 in Calgary, leaving Faber to deal with the fallout of losing two of his past three bouts, both being bantamweight title shots.

With his track record being what it is and "The California Kid" having turned 33-years-old this year, is it realistic to think he can ever get back to another title shot? In any weight class?

Would have liked to seen him fight Torres or Jorgensen but I guess they'll give him Mayday since they desperately want him to be Champion even though he's been beat by the Champ and the wannabe Champ.

I'd like to see Faber fight Michael McDonald, that would be very interesting. The thing about Faber is that he is SO close to being good enough to be the champ, but not quite good enough. His losses to Cruz and Barao were both close fights that could have gone his way had he just stepped it up one or two notches.
