Vitor Belfort: I fight because i love it. I dont need it.

Quote:

Iconic Brazilian Vitor Belfort made his UFC debut more than fifteen years ago and has been competing at a high level ever since. In his 30-fight career “The Phenom” has compiled 21 wins including those over fellow stand-outs like Yoshihiro Akiyama, Rich Franklin, and Wanderlei Silva. He is a superstar in his homeland and one of the most respected Mixed Martial Artists in the sport.
That being said, Belfort could retire tomorrow and be a first-ballot Hall of Famer. However, the 35-year old has no plans to hang his gloves up anytime soon, especially with an adversary like light heavyweight champion Jon Jones on the horizon even if he’s a huge underdog going into the short-notice scrap.
“I make my own odds. I make my own atmosphere,” Belfort explained in an interview with GracieMag. “I’m gonna bring the fight. That’s what you can expect. A fight. I’m gonna go to win, not just to be there getting a paycheck. Because the bottom line is, the only reason I’m still fighting is because I love it. I don’t need it – I want it.”
The two polished pugilists are set to face off on September 22 at UFC 152. Belfort will enter the fight with the momentum of back-to-back wins, while Jones holds an overall record of 16-1 with his only defeat involving an unnecessary disqualification.

Well thats always nice to hear. Vitor was fighting when there wasnt any money in the sport. So it isnt hard to believe that its the love of fighting that is keeping him going. BUT im also sure if Dana tomorrow said you arnt getting paid to fight for us anymore that Vitor would turn in his pink slip. Rightfully so...

Its ring true due to what you said, he fought when there was no money in it - there was no end goal of money like there is now. People deal with fighting for fuk all because the end goal is riches. But also he is very rich already, massive in brazil and has a really rich wife - he clearly does not need the money, what he makes in the UFC is pretty small for him i would guess.

I believe him when he says it, and yet still think he's not going to love fighting so much when he's in the ring with Jones getting ragdolled.

I hope he likes getting the sh*t beaten out of him.

Please destroy Jones, Vitor. If he can't finish Jones in the first, Jones will take him down at will and finish him via tko. Sad to say, but I think that's the most likely outcome.
