Not a fan of the Stout/Makdessi match-up, don't like two Canadians fighting on a Canadian card, like English or Brazilian match-ups, there are so many fighters ay 155, Makdessi would likely be cut with a loss.

"Canadian lightweights Sam Stout (19-7-1 MMA, 7-6 UFC) and John Makdessi (9-2 MMA, 2-2 UFC) will square off at UFC 154.

The Canadian Press today brought word of the impending matchup, and MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) confirmed it with officials.

UFC 154 takes place Nov. 17 at Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The event's main card airs live on pay-per-view while preliminary-card fights air on FX.

It's not yet known whether Stout vs. Makdessi will serve on the main-card or prelims.

Stout returns to action after triumphing at UFC on FX 4 in a rubber match with veteran Spencer Fisher. In their third fight to go 15 minutes, Stout was declared the winner by unanimous decision.

The win reversed a decision loss to Thiago Tavares at UFC 142, which snapped a two-fight win streak.

Makdessi, meanwhile, is on shaky ground inside the octagon. The former kickboxer has dropped his past two bouts against Dennis Hallman and Anthony Njokuani, respectively, which muted the momentum he earned with wins over Pat Audinwood and Kyle Watson (the latter in highlight-reel fashion with a spinning backfist KO). "Fabio Maldonado (18-5 MMA, 1-2 UFC) can cancel his ticket to England. Instead, it's off to Canada.

MMAjunkie.com (www.mmajunkie.com) has learned that after his UFC on FX 5 opponent Jorgen Kruth (5-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) abruptly retired, Maldonado has instead been called on to fight Cyrille Diabate (18-8-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) at UFC 154, which.

Verbal agreements are in place for the new matchup, but bout agreements have yet to be distributed. UFC officials have yet to make an announcement regarding the switch or Kruth's retirement.

UFC 154 takes place on Nov. 17 at Montreal's Bell Centre. While not officially announced, a welterweight title-unification bout between champion Georges St-Pierre and interim titleholder Carlos Condit is expected to headline the show.

The main card airs on pay-per-view following prelims on FX and Facebook.

Kruth signed with the UFC earlier this year to compete at UFC on FUEL TV 2 in Stockholm, but he ultimately scratched due to an injury. The Swedish striker today told Swedish outlet Expressen (as translated by Studio MMA) that his body, which has endured some 85 professional kickboxing contests

"I have been thinking for a long time," Kruth said. "However, I feel it's time now. I neither have the motivation or focus and my body doesn’t respond anymore. I’m not getting the results that I want."

Maldonado, a Brazilian fighter, likely finds himself in a must-win situation. The fighter knocked out James McSweeney in his promotional debut for his 11th straight win (and 12th knockout in 18 career victories). However, he's since suffered back-to-back decision losses to Kyle Kingsbury and Igor Pokrajac.

Meanwhile, Diabate looks for his first two-fight win streak in the octagon after earning a majority decision over Tom DeBlass (who replaced Kruth on that fight card) at UFC on FUEL TV 2. Diabate made his UFC debut in May 2010 with a win over Luiz Cane and has since alternated wins and losses over a span of five fights.

"UFC officials have added a bantamweight affair between Ivan Menjivar and Azamat Gashimov to the UFC 154: St-Pierre vs. Condit card. The event takes place November 17 from Montreal.
Menjivar and Gashimov will likely be part of the prelims. The scheduled main event will crown a unified UFC welterweight champion, as Georges St-Pierre takes on Carlos Condit.

Menjivar (24-9) lost his last fight, falling by decision to Mike Easton. He had previously won each of his last three, including a submission victory over John Albert.

Gashimov (7-1) was set to make his UFC debut earlier this year, but was forced out of a planned fight with Alex Soto. He owns two knockout and four submission triumphs to his credit."

Nice card. Even the undercard looks good.

Card looks awesome. I hope Dos Anjos and Kampmann dominate their fights.

It's a real shame to see Fabio be 1-2 when he should be 3-0. There's nothing even wrong with his fighting style. The way he goes to the body is brilliant. Judges just refuse to count body shots or something. The Kingsbury decision was bad but the Igor decision was just atrocious.

Stout vs Makdessi doesn't sound like a good match up. They're both going to sit on the outside and work for a decision. Stout might mix it up and go for takedowns but neither will really look for the finish I think.

I do like these three fights. I think they do have the potential be exciting in their own ways. Especially the Maldonado/Diabate scrap. That will be a great stand up battle. My money is on Maldonado in that one. I also can see Stout handing Makdessi his walking papers and as far as Ivan and Gashimov goes I am going to pick Ivan based ont he fact that I feel he is too big of a step up in competition for Gashimov at this time. Especially considering that this is his debut fight for the UFC as well.
