Kampmann: If GSP wants to get knocked out, he can just take a fight with me

Quote:

UFC Welterweight Martin Kampmann has a lot riding on his upcoming fight with Johny Hendricks at UFC 154. Although not officially a number one contender's match, there's no doubt that the fight has serious title implications. In the last year, Kampmann has put together his most impressive series of victories as a UFC fighter and is now riding a 3-fight win streak. For his part, Hendricks has also been on an incredible tear overcoming the odds against Welterweight mainstays Josh Koscheck and Jon Fitch.

Bleacher Report's Duane Finley got his thoughts on the upcoming match:

I feel confident about the fight with Johny. We've trained together in the past. Obviously we know each other well and are aware of each other's strong points. Johny is a great wrestler, has knockout power, but he's not super technical. I have to watch out for the big left hand and his wrestling is always a factor. I feel I can win this fight in a lot of different ways, and I have a lot of confidence going in.

For sure I believe a win over Hendricks gets me the title shot," Kampmann said. "I feel I should have been given the shot a long time ago. I have fought some of the best welterweights in the world and every single fight I get is against one of the top contenders.

Martin Kampmann also had a few words to current UFC Welterweight Champion Georges St. Pierre.

I'm doing GSP a favor because I'm beating all the tough guys in the division. He should be sending me thank-you letters

I don't know why GSP is so anxious to get knocked out by Anderson Silva. If he wants to get knocked out, he can just take a fight with me.

As he hints here, it may be a while before Kampmann gets a shot at GSP's title as rumors are once again heavy about a super fight him and Middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva. Regardless, Martin will have his hands full against Hendricks in November. In both of his last two fights, the lanky Dane has found himself in serious trouble before pulling off come from behind finishes against Thiago Alves and Jake Ellenberger. He'll meet Johny Henddricks at UFC 154 on November 17 in Montreal, Canada.

And this is what happens when the organization decides gift a fighter with a title shot just for running his mouth.

Should he win this fight, he'd be by far the most eligible contender for the belt.

If Kampmann beats Hendricks and gets a title shot it would not be a gift in any sense of the word.

Agreed. If Kampmann beats Hendricks and gets a title shot, no one should have any complaints.

Yea he deserves a title shot with a win over Hendrick, but no way is he knocking GSP out.

Anderson Silva
Aldo - Dos Anjos - Mayday - Weidman - Machida - Jones

Whatever. If Hendrix beats Kampmann, that right there is one of the most impressive 3 fight win streaks ever.

Plus, Martin always gets clocked every time he faces a big puncher. With Hendrix, one is all he needs.

Martin is getting bearded.

Jon Fitch - Was coming off of an 11 month injury.
Josh Koscheck - Hendricks did okay, but wasn't too impressive.
Martin Kampmann - Has pulled off his last two wins after getting hurt badly. Kind of lucky to have survived them.

I mean, definently enough to make calls for a title shoty, but one of the most impressive 3 fight win streaks ever? Not imo.
