It could easily go either way but I'm pulling for Nelson to win!

Probably an inside trip.

Seeing Mir outmuscled Roy in the clinch and Shane obliterated Frank in the clinch. Yes, I do think MMA math applies here. Again the only issue is Carwin's gas tank especially with the very long layoff.
First of all, Frank Mir is vastly superior to Carwin, he lost because it was a terrible style match up for him and he can't take a punch. Roy isn't going to fold like a lawnchair the first time he gets hit.

Secondly, that fight was years ago when Carwin was in his prime. He's going on 38 years old and hasn't fought in more than a year, and he was extremely limited before that on top of it all. He has power but he can't box. He's tough but he has no stamina, he has pathetic grappling and submission defense, among other things.

Carwin.

Chins fade, Roy shouldn't be fighting at Heavyweight. Carwin's gonna **** him up, big time.

I have never understood why people have thought Carwin was ever a top HW. Now that he is coming off a long layoff, has chronic back problems, isn't a young guy....he will be even more average.

Carwin hits hard. But he is slow as death. He has cardio for a half of a round. His wrestling isn't that good because his shot is as slow as a sloth. His BJJ is terrible.

He can certainly connect a good shot and put pretty much anyone out. But Roy could put him out as well. He could also out last Carwin if he makes it out of round 1. If Carwin is throwing any combo of punches in the 1st he will be tired by the 2nd.

I got Nelson because he has more ways to win. But it should be a slobberknocker.

Lactic acid build up is manageable and I doubt we're going to see it happen to Carwin again. I'm sure he learned his lesson.

These two guys took JDS to decision and ppl are worried about cardio and talking about how Roy sucks or how carwin is overrated.

Cain was dispatched easily by JDS wile he had a torn meniscus, but the two dudes that made JDS work for his money are cans?

Going 12-0 (4-0 in the UFC) finishing every fight within 3 minutes, then nearly knocking Lesnar out whilst he was still widely considered #1 Heavyweight in the world might have had something to do with it.

How can any one NOT have considered Carwin a top HW?!!

^ Good post.

I don't think Carwin is going to finish this one. I don't think he's going to be impressive in his entire UFC future and I don't see his career lasting too long. I don't know why, just feel it. I think this fight will be a huge let down with Nelson landing a couple more jabs and edging some grappling to take the decision.

Thanks to Ape for the sig.

If carwins surgery and subsequent layoff have affected him negatively this is exactly how I see this fight going.

If not, see earlier post

I think Nelson takes this if he gets out of the first round.
