Chael Sonnen Training for Jon Jones... Right Now...
Quote:

Controversial UFC middleweight Chael Sonnen is reportedly still training for a light heavyweight bout with Jon Jones. Weeks prior, Sonnen said that Vitor Belfort has a history of dropping out of fights, and he still thinks he will get the call if this circumstance does indeed come to fruition. The bout between Jones and Belfort is a little under a week away, and so far there is no indication that any fighter has sustained injuries in their training camp.
Dana White described the situation with USA Today:
“Chael Sonnen is in full training camp right now,. He’s been training since he got offered the Jones fight. He said, ‘I’m in full camp right now because Vitor will get hurt and pull out, and it will be Jones vs. Sonnen, anyway.”
Sonnen has already went against the grain in terms of promoting his fights, and this action is exactly in the realm of typical Sonnen behavior. In the past, we saw Chael talk about how he is the undisputed middleweight champion of the world even when Anderson Silva clearly had the rights to that claim. This could be Chael just trying to stir some controversy and try to get his name in the spotlight, which is very typical of Sonnen.
Regardless of the Jones vs. Belfort outcome, one can only imagine how well the Sonnen vs. Jones fight would sell on pay per view. Both of these fighters have some of the best drawing power in the UFC right now in terms of pay per view buys, and the fight would more another huge fight for UFC and company.
At least UFC fans know that there will be a back up in case Belort does indeed pull out of the bout, and that plan is none other than the Oregon gangster himself. Sonnen is coming off a devastating loss to Silva, and it appears he is chomping at the bit to get a hold of Jones inside the cage. Regardless of whether this comes to fruition, Sonnen always seems to be training and ready for a fight on short notice, which is great from a fan’s perspective.
So is this just Sonnen trying to bypass his way through the light heavyweight division in order to get a shot at the belt? Feel free to comment in the section below or send me a tweet @MMA_FORTE.

I found this interesting to say the least. Would Jones even turn down a fight against Sonnen again if Vitor does get hurt?
At least Sonnen would be a little more prepared this time around.
With the amount of injuries as of late, this probably isn't a bad idea to start doing something like this for every fight.

honestly, theres no down fall in doing it. Unless of course u have a fight scheduled. But i mean training to fighting the champion in your division can NOT hurt you. Even if your not up next.

I thought Chael didn't know what a training camp was? I thought he trained as hard as he could everyday of the year.

Those were Dana's words regarding what Chael told him. Who knows if he said he was in a camp or just training for Jones.
Either way, with all the ridiculousness that comes out of his mouth, this is a pretty minute thing to attack.

I'm 99% sure dana loves chael and would make up anything that could sound believable to hype him up.
And i dont blame him. Chaels awesome. He's a great company man so why not?

He won't be in camp but he'll be training as if he is. Him and his coaches will be training specifically for Jones because there is a very real chance that Vitor will pull out. If that does happen, it's almost definite that Chael will get the fight, and I'm not sure how Jones would react to it happening again.
I still want Chael Vs Forrest!

Given the exact same amount of time? Yes. They didn't decline the first fight because of the opponent but rather because of the almost no time they had to prepare for a new opponent.
And yes, I remember all the other facts so no need to spew them (Not pointing at you PGI), just saying what I think.

It depends how much will power he has. If he fights against Greg Jackson and says that he wants the fight, it's actually a showing that he doesnt have much. If the fans are getting to him to the point where he fights against his coach's suggestions, it's showing that he doesnt have the security in his beliefs to stick with his decision.
It's easy to say he's not a fighter and stuff, but if inside the Gracie Gym everyone told Royce not to take a fight he wouldnt. Theres two sides of fighters. You have the people that literally do anything for their sensei, and you have the one man wrecking machines like Chuck, Leben, Wanderlei etc. They might be loyal to their camps, but when they get in there it's going to be their fight with no thought of the strategy they put in place beforehand.
It's common that people would claim that Jones is part of a "new fighter generation", but as I references, the first ever UFC legend would be the prime example of someone 100% loyal to his team. Jones did what he was suggested to do, and it's easy for guys sitting back to claim that he isn't a true fighter or whatever, but MMA splits. You have fighters and you have martial artists. Hell even the Cobra Kai kids left Daniel San alone until fight time because their sensei told them too .
