Rather than start up a new thread here's a candid post fight interview.

If most people are this open and modest they would gain more fans. Cool guy even though I thought Igor would take it. Maybe Perosh, Jimmo, or Te-huna next...

Slightly overrating him a bit, but I love seeing positive threads like this. People are always so down for some reason around here and everyone being up on this guy is good.

This is a crazy hard question. Mir has shown a mix of skills, but sometimes he can look bad. Nog would be the favourite, had Mir not snapped his arm. Maia is definently one to look at even though he hasn't done quite as well for a few years.

I'm sure everyone wants to say Gracie, but we all kind of know that he was so dominant because everyone was so weak.

Magalhaes wins one fight and is the best? Werdum would tear his limbs off and slap him with them.

Magalhaes beat Werdum at the ADCC less than a year ago. Come on man do a bit of research before flaming me!

That interview with Ariel is great too, I hope he can get a run going, cos he is right people do look at records above pretty much anything else

Surely Royce Gracie is hands down the winner? Nobody else has won shit by purely grappling in the UFC.
And if we were to argue that it was a different time then, you also have to factor in he was fighting guys way bigger then him, whom he knew nothing about, in matches with basically no rules where guys were going against men who were the best in the world in their particular disciplines. Guys today might be multidisciplined and harder to beat by just grappling but they didnt have to deal with a lot of serious shit that was there back in the day

Royce didnt have to deal with any of it either. By being a pure grappler at a time where no one knew what grappling was, he avoided any of the no rules style. The closest Royce got to a no rules fight was headbutting someone and keeping his submissions on for ages. Royce didnt get headbutted, punched in the groin, kicked on the ground.

Royce is one of my all time favourites, but you have to take into account that takedown and submission defence was only words to his opponents.

Didnt he take a serious beating against Kimo? I know he locked him up at the end but I remember he could hardly stand and wasnt able to fight the last fight.

Your mostly right about them not knowing shit about submission defence but then there are guys like Ken Shamrock who knew a bit fighting the pancration stuff, and Oleg Taktarov knew some good sub defence.
I would counter your argument that while the opposition might be limited, Royce was limited also, whereas you have to think Vinny has trained wrestling, boxing and various other things a hell of a lot even if he does pull guard.
