I think Rory is right on here.

I've always wondered about this. Why do big name fighters train for so long for a fight. I get that you need to prepare, but guys used to fight 3 or 4 fights in a night. Now they fight once every three or 4 months.

There are too many injuries in training and these guys could be fighting more and getting injured less if they shortened their camps imo.

Good on Rory for calling this out.

I've always liked Rory, seemed polite at the Fan Expo,

But since getting injured and getting media attention (Fx interviews and Sportsnet) Im starting to see parallel's to Anakin Skywalker...

I like his fire, its different than the stereotypical "humble" Canadian, but I can help but laugh when I watch an interview and he comes across as whiny or sometimes arrogant. Its like the frustration Anakin had wanting things too quickly before he ended up becoming Darth Vader....

I hope Rory keeps it in check, learns the right things from GSP, and the rest of the vets to not become a Jones (hated by the fans).

He will smash BJ, and hopefully avenge the loss to Condit right after..

Most guys do fight often, until they become Top 5 in the UFC. Getting paid for things like fan meet n greets and turning up to conferences gets in the way of training IMO, its all $$$.

Then when they need to train for a big fight, they go HAM trying to regain the physique and fitness they had when fighting 4, 5 or more times a year and injure themselves.

Speculation I know, but these guys are getting much more money than we're led to believe. I'd love a 4 fight per year minimum in the UFC for every fighter, thats one fight every three months barring injury. Of course with the amount of injuries, such a rule could not be kept, but it would mean everyone is training to some extent at all times and there SHOULD always be a replacement fighter ready to go.

Not fighting should be like skipping school, in that you need a doctor's note in order to do it. Fighters should be under a 4-fight MINIMUM annually or at risk of being cut. More fights, more cards, more action, less BS!

4-fight minimum barring in jury sounds pretty good to me.

I know you can do 4 fights in a year once but wouldn't it be damn near impossible to do in back to back years?

Frankly I think you can fix most problems with three rules.
  1. If you pull out of a fight you are prohibited from contending for a title for one year.
  2. If you are a champion and you pull out of a fight you may not return as the headliner only the co-main eventer.
  3. No card will feature more then three different weight classes.

BJ gon' whoop dat ass.

Rory is just stating the obvious. These guys don't get paid to train, in fact they incur incredible expense doing so and it makes their livelihood a lot less profitable, couple this with fighting once or twice a year Jose Aldo style and you end up with cases like Cole Konrad, retiring in their primes at 26 or so because they got a real job.

Well it isn't eas when you spend all that money on the training camp, the fight get's delayed and you have to organize everything around, make sure your training partners stay (the ones you had to bring in) etc.
