Kongo handled Mitrione with ease, Cormier would have pushed his shit in big time.

Mitrione's been running his mouth about Jones and Rampage and when the opportunity arises for him to fight someone big time he backs out, that's about as bitch made as it gets.

Can't blame Matt for not accepting it. I doubt there's too many guys clamoring for a shot at Cormier. Dude's legit.

Struve would be interesting, but Cormier should be fighting against a contender AT LEAST if not for the title. Then it completely undermines SF.

With no opponent maybe he'll head to LHW.
This is typical of the the UFC. They don't WANT an interesting fight, they want a fight that Cormier will win easily. Obviously Mitrione would lose and is outclassed by Cormier. This is the direction the UFC is heading, they want to hype Cormier up so they do as much as they can to rig the fight without actually paying someone off. ******* makes me sick, just admit you want to be the WWE already.

I know their lacking of available talent at this point but Mitrione, really? DC deserves an A-list fighter, not someone who put on an awful performance against the nutcracker. I like Mitrione but not desrving.

Mixed on this.

On one hand, he knows he'd have no chance of winning. And as someone mentioned, fighting in Strikeforce is a demotion, whatever way you choose to look at it.

On the other hand, he had nothing to lose. And now I hope he has fun fighting on Facebook prelims instead.

Not too encouraging that they were digging for Mitrione here...

A bit dramatic. To play devil's advocate, why would Dana White and the UFC want to put one of their top fighters against Cormier when said fight will take place in a 'rival' promotion on a rival network? Frank Mir is one thing, as he'll likely never see another title match. The UFC has nothing to gain from Cormier smashing one of its proper heavyweights in a fight not even taking place under its banner.

Mitrione is expendable for the UFC. He's a decent heavyweight, but he isn't going to be a superstar.

Cormier is coming to the UFC, everyone knows it, and they can market him as a champion. He has more money making potential than Mitrione by far, don't think for a second Dana doesn't know this.

I agree with some of the previous posters, and I've said it myself, the UFC gets less and less interested every day in actually having the best fighters fight. They want an easy fight for Cormier, that looks like a real fight to those that don't know better. Bullshit, Mitrione is right to tell them to go screw. As far as risk/reward goes, it's a terrible fight for him.

I do know this. That's precisely what I'm arguing. The previous poster was upset with the idea of Mitrione facing Cormier, but again, why would the UFC risk a Fabricio or an Overeem getting KOed on a rival network? If the UFC is going to take that risk, it's going to do so within the confines of its own promotion.

Besides, it's silly to argue that the UFC wants to 'rig' this fight when it initially had in place Mir as an opponent. Dana and company were obviously interested in offering Cormier at least SOME semblance of a challenge. People love to act as though Dana and the UFC are responsible for some of the mediocre matches we've seen when the real culprit is a barrage of injuries.

Gonzaga would be a decent opponent, but he's tied up with 153.

Dana need to stop insulting fighters for not taking fights. In a sport where u can very easily become permanently injured or even killed, a fighter has every right to decided no to fight someone, ESP if they know they are outclassed. Mitrione is swallowing his pride and saying he's not good enough to beat Cormier so he won't.
