He's toward the end of his career, why not? He can't afford to work his way up anymore. He's basically at the late-era Couture phase now, when he needs to take the biggest and best fights he can on any notice at all, and actually has a chance to be that guy who steps into fights he doesn't necessarily earn, because he is a legend. And like Couture, he has the game that can still surprise the world.

I don't say much on these forums I just kinda like reading everyone's opinions and checking out news n what not, but man.... it really is insane how many people dislike Anderson. I just dont get it the guy has beaten everyone. All the people who have come before who have been the same, the new up and comer, the guy to take him out and he beats them all. Chris is a awesome fighter, is he the number 1 contender probably imho its between him bisping and tim.

He took this fight on short notice, after he said he didnt want to take this year, probably heavier than normal n not as conditioned. He did it for the fans! and as of late wit cards falling apart and people not fighting its awesome to see one of the best ever to step and take this fight against a tough fighter.

If Anderson really did fight anyone at any time at any weight he'd be fighting Chris Weidman, the rightful number one contender to the Middleweight Title who atleast has a shot of beating him on eight weeks notice with a full training camp in December, not some mid-level semi-retired LHW whose not won a relevant fight in forever that's being brought in on short notice in October to be slayed as a showcase for the Brazilian fans. I get why Anderson's taking the fight and he's doing it on short notice to save a card in his home country, which is cool but the whole anyone/any weight/any time thing isn't quite true.
I have to agree. Or he should be fighting Jones. I don't get this treaty that Jones and Silva have made. If Silva is not interested in the LHW title, why the heck is he fighting at 205? Total BS. If he wins impressively, Jones Silva should be on.

Do we really need someone camping on two titles at once in the UFC? No thanks. If Silva were to fight Jones I think he'd need to be willing to abandon the MW title first, and I think Dana agrees.

And using possibly one of his last few fights on a guy who doesn't even remotely belong in the cage with him. I want the best in the world to fight the best in the world. Apparently that doesn't make sense to everyone.

And Silva fan boys are pushing for the Boetsch fight simply because they know it will be another highlight real KO. I could easily argue Weidman's wins are better than Boetsch. A loss to Davis and win over Grove and Ring. Then a performance where he was getting killed and came back to win, right before another performance that put half the audience to sleep. No way Boetsch has a better resume at this point than Weidman. Both Boetsch and Weidman would be more interesting matchups than Bonnar.

Mark Munoz' best win was a drugged up Chris Leben....

Of course he would vacate the MW title. That's a no brainer. And who gives a rip? He's fighting at 205 and beating everyone impressively. Why duck the champ?

This will be his third outing at 205 in a career where he's fought 45 pounds lighter at times. I'd call that more of a joyride than a change of weight.
