Oh that's definitely a long shot. If that fight ever happens, I guarantee you that it would suck. Guarantee it. It would be two guys bouncing around throwing a bunch of insignificant strikes and missing most of them.

It's good for Edgar to fight in the lower weight classes because it's a big name they desperatley need.

I'd like to see both fights but Cruz/Edgar is more interesting to me from the standpoint of who is the best at that type of fighting. The striking would be really interesting but I think Edgar would dominate him in the grappling.

Frankie lost to Bendo because he threw seven times as many feints as he did actual strikes. I think going down to 145 or even 135, he would have a lot more confidence in his power and would commit to his striking.
That being said, I still think Frankie will lose to Aldo. Aldo is just too dynamic. Incredible striking, nearly impossible to take down, power in droves, and he's fixed his cardio problem. It's going to take someone with unparalelled wrestling and a marble slab chin to beat Aldo, and I don't think that there is a guy right now, or in the next 5 years who can or will be able to even come close.
I think Edgar beats Cruz pretty convincingly. Cruz has never really impressed me and I think Faber would beat him if they ever fought again and I think Barao will take the belt.

People don't even know how he'll hold up at 145 speed wise and you wanna see him at 135 with Cruz bouncing around him? He'd have nothing for Cruz. He'd jab him to death.

I'm reserving all judgement on his quote until Edgard fights at 145...I ain't even entertaining the notion of possibilities at 135 yet.

Frankie put Penn, Maynard, and Bendo on their backs multiple times. There's no doubt in my mind he can take Aldo down. The question is what happens after that.

Faber dropped Dominick a few times in their second fight and took him down. Frankie is a better boxer and a better wrestler than Urijah.
He barely beat Benavidez and had troubles with Mighty Mouse. Those are both natural 125lbers, Cruz is a natural 155 like Frank. Frank will be doing some serious murking if that fight ever happens, but Barao will beat him to it.
Frankie could probably wrestle him to a decision or tap him out if he wanted to.
