What's extreme about wakeboarding?

If you make a mistake, you fall in the water.

Safer than a bathtub.

How about you test that theory by jumping out of a plane over a lake?

I have skipped across the water many times and it does not feel great at all. It isn't this highest risk out of extreme sports, but the possibility is definitely there for injury.

In comparison to Cerrone being kicked in the jaw by a horse and twisting his intestines to a point where they need to be untangled due to motorcross injury; wakeboarding is perfectly safe.

Maybe there is some chance for injury for those who go 30 mph and do a big triple front flip 10-15 feet over the water. But considering Cerrone looks like hes just learning and he's doing low impact stuff that beginners learn its pretty impossible to injure yourself.

By contrast skaters and rollerbladers do some of the same tricks wakeboarders do, main difference: concrete doesn't splash.

I think some of you may be vastly underestimating how difficult it is to incur Frank Mir level motorcycle injuries by falling into a body of water.

Moderate grasp of physics.

Seriously though, you're right that this isn't the most dangerous sport out there, but you're vastly understating the risks of hitting a body of water at speed. There's this thing called surface tension.
