The story on Jeremy Stephens from Dana White

From the press conference

Stephens was wanted for a warrant for an assault in Iowa. They waited until noon on the fight day to arrest him, likely to keep him from seeing a judge. They are planning on extraditing him to Iowa for this case. The UFC made three different deals to get Stephens out and each time the people from Iowa changed the terms to keep Stephens in jail. Yves Edwards will get to fight as soon as possible, likely not against Stephens. Dana believes someone in Iowa has a vendetta against Jeremy and wanted to make sure he didn't earn an income.

The UFC will not be cutting Stephens over this and Dana believes "his" side of the story.

Don't expect the UFC to run a show in Iowa anytime in the future.

The UFC feels like Des Moines were trying to extort the UFC for god knows how much money in bail.

On where negotiations broke down: "There were two charges. One was $1,000 bail. The other was $20,000. That's where we started. Where we ended was ******* insane. I could have gotten (Charles) Manson out for what they wanted me to pay for him. It's just crazy. I've seen crazier shit than this before. Floyd Mayweather got to decide when he went to jail. You know what I mean? But this kid on an assault charge couldn't come out and fight today when he would have gone back to jail. I would have bailed him out. I would have flown him to Des Moines, Iowa, to face the charges down there. I was willing to do anything, and they dragged me out played games with me all day. That's why I'm so pissed."
I wonder if they asked for a million dollars bail

This sounds like one of two things:

A-There is some "bad blood" between Iowa/Stephens & the D.A. is going overboard in trying to prove a point.

or

B-He was arrested on an out of state warrant. If this was a felony warrant & Iowa requested his extradition, he would be held without bail till he is extradited.

Seeing as Iowa requested Minnesota authorities to arrest him, scenario B sounds like the more likely scenario. They knew where he would be.

According to Jordan Breen a woman alleges that Stephens beat her brother 'half to death' over a misunderstanding.

And not only that, but that when they finally got Stephens off the guy, he went after him again, dragged him out of a taxi and beat him some more.

If her version of the story is even half true, you can expect Stephens to do hard time especially given the allegations that he paid a guy to take the fall for him and then fled the state to avoid the police.

Dana White once again looking like a complete and utter fool and projecting a bad light onto the professionalism of the UFC.

A fighter on his roster has just been arrested for charges of assault and Dana White is trying to rush him into the octagon to fight another man on the night of his arrest....for assault.

Absolutely ludicrous. Stephens could have beaten up a woman for all we know, Dana shouldn't even be thinking about getting him back into the octagon until Stephens' entire arrest has been cleared up.

As soon as it was announced Stephens had been arrested, the fight should have been cancelled there and then.

I think that this is terrible publicity for the UFC and I wish Dana would just go away for good.

@GrappleRetarded

Supposedly he saw a couple arguing and intervened and him and his friend beat the shit out of the guy according to one source 'half to death'. Then fled the state.

I covered the rumor a few posts up. Jordan Breen talked about it on his show and then there's a thread on Sherdog with a bit more info

But I agree with what you said about Dana. Not something he should be making public statements about until the whole story comes out.

GR, how do you know that ANYTHING you just said was true? For all you know, the brother kicked off and attacked him. I once seen a dude slap his chick in the face. I walked over to warn him not to do it again, and the girl attacked me. Obviously the bitch was crazy, but how do you know that Stephens didnt just see a dude hit a girl or something, went over and did something about it? I'd knock a guy out if I saw him hit a girl and theres a decent chance that scenario played out.

Dana said Iowa had it in for Stephens because the 'deal' changed 3 times. His focus is on getting fighters in the cage. People do illegal shit all the time. Charlie Sheen was the WWE's guest embassador. All of that shit gets brushed aside when a business is concerned, and Dana's only focus was on getting the guy out in time to fight.

OK, but a person who was supposedly actually there has alleged that he attacked he guy over a misunderstanding and there must have been enough evidence that the police got involved.

All of which is slightly more relevant to THIS case than something you saw in a completely unrelated case.

As I said above, if Stephens did even half of what it is alleged he did, he could be getting charged with attempted murder.

He and a friend allegedly beat a guy, got separated, then hauled him out of a taxi and beat him some more. Then he allegedly fled the state, and paid his friend off to take the fall for him.

Which adds conspiracy charges, etc to the bill.

Getting in a drunken fight is one thing, beating a guy two on one, and then trying to cover it up and fleeing the state is big boy federal penitentiary stuff.

In short, time will tell.

Well, the police are after him, to the extent that they're pulling strings from state to state to get a hold of the guy. That suggests it's more than just a Facebook conversation that they're going on.

But at this point, the key word is ALLEGEDLY.

I would however argue that the police don't usually pull this kind of shit unless they feel they have a good reason to do so.

And people say 'oh it's a conspiracy to make sure he doesn't earn any income' damn right. If someone got beaten half to death and you found out the guy who did it is appearing on national TV and making tens of thousands of dollars while the victim is laid up recovering you'd probably be doing what you can to make sure that doesn't happen.

I like Jeremy Stephens as a fighter, he's one of these guys at a smaller weight class who still comes to finish guys and generally puts on exciting fights.

If it was a simple bar fight, I wouldn't even think any thing of it. I personally think if you go out in public and go one on one with another guy and lose, you tuck your tail between your legs and accept the defeat.

But the second you two on one someone, that's not a fight, that's a beating and it's basically the most cowardly thing a man can do imo.

I would suspect a camera phone video exists of this incident. Every fight I've seen in the last 5 years had about 20 wallflowers standing around like idiots filming it when they could be breaking it up.
