To me he's a much more interesting fighter than guys like Chris Leben, who can hit hard and take a punch, but show you little to learn from.

I love seeing good grapplers go to work. Guys like Mark Bocek, Rafael Dos Anjos(before he started getting knockouts), Jacob Volkmann etc are a pleasure to watch. They might not always get the finish, but you can see them either working for it or just straight dominating. Jake Shields isn't like that. Nothing about him is spectacular. The only thing he has going for him is literally just laying there. If I was a judge, I would never score a fight for him because all he ever does is stall. He doesn't fight. The Kampmann and Herman fights being perfect examples.
I don't hate the guy or anything, I just think he's an eye sore. I give him credit though, no one lay and prays like he does. He's the best at it.

Revisionist nonsense. He dominated Herman all over the place, and put on a positioning and control clinic. It certainly wasn't spectacular, but it was methodical and effective. And he wasn't just laying there, that's bullshit.

Aye, Shields completely schooled Ed Herman on the ground. And I love me some Ed Herman. I understand that not everyone cares for Jake's style, and I'd not attempt to fight anyone on that. I enjoy watching him fight, and I say to each his/her own.
I am curious as to what he was popped for (though my first guess was also the green, lol).

I've been trying to find a video of the fight to rewatch it, but no luck. I remember thinking, and many others as well, that it was an underwhelming performance on Shields' part. And I certainly don't remember a "positioning and control clinic" that's for sure.

It was probably anti-depressants. I mean, if you woke up every day knowing you were Jake Shields, you'd be pretty depressed too.

But in all seriousness, I don't mind. I'm gonna go on a stretch here and say that he is the most boring fighter on the roster. If anyone can think of a more boring fighter, let me know.

He seems to be one of those guys that suddenly realize "Oh shaite, i'm boring as hell, i better upgrade my game or i'll be kicked in no time!".

Yeah Lentz is a totally different at 145... He beat the living tar out of the last guy he fought.... I was amazed...Like I said, totally different fighter...
I also like Shields...He has a great chin...Will stand with guys who can out strike him and his grappling is sick...

Yeah he tore through Mitsuoka, I don't know how he does against the upper echelon at 145 but he's a different fighter at 145 than he was at 155 for sure.
