How much is "too much" punishment: Maldonado vs Teixeira

Maldonado absorbed a tremendous amount of punishment last night, sustaining virtually 2 full rounds of fists and elbows to the face and head. I found it was difficult to watch in the second round. How much is too much? Did the "doctor" actually have control over the situation? Was he the one that had the final say or did he seem to be unsure? Was the UFC actually keeping the safety of the fighter a priority?

Should've been stopped in the first. He was out on his feet and already suffering a terrible concussion along the fence. Letting fights go on like that is what causes brain damage.

I'm glad they stopped the fight. Some guys just have the ability to not be knocked out by big shots, but it does not mean serious damage is being done. At the end of the second round I counted 3 times where he double tapped the fence after getting hit with big shots as to measure his distance to get his bearings and maintain balance. The fourth time he tried to double tap it after a big shot he only single tapped it and stumbled really hard along it.

The right call was made, but it easily could have been stopped earlier. Just because a fighter appears to be coherent because he can take a big shot without being 'shut off' doesn't mean he is fully coherent and damage isn't being done.

His corner should have never let him go out there for a second round... That was just crazy....

Should have been stopped when he was swaying on his feet in the first.

This. I was screaming stop the fight at the TV during the first. The dude was out on his feet and would have fallen over if not for the fence.

That fight was hard to watch. Should've been stopped in the first round.

Should have been stopped in the first when it was evident he could barely stand and was just covering up against the cage. Safety first, the guy was getting badly hurt with possible long term implications.

I just hope DW doesn't cut the guy from the UFC for his 3rd consecutive losses

He displayed a tremendous heart there.

Congrats to the new LHW beast!
