Jon Jones not interested in coaching TUF with Daniel Cormier
Source: http://fiveknuckles.com/mma-news/Jon...l-Cormier.html
Hmmm... I get it I suppose, but who else would he coach against, Sonnen? Sonnen is a guy he could beat, but would probably be better TV, but Cormier is a guy that could actually beat him. Thoughts?
"I'd be interested in a TUF season in the future, but it'd take the right opponent. As far as Daniel Cormier saying he wants to coach against me, he would want that, wouldn't he? He's relatively unknown, I want to do it when the fans are aware of both guys, and when it's spunky and when it raises a lot of viewers. I'm not here to raise his stock." - Jon Jones via ESPN.co.uk
Recently current Strikeforce heavyweight Grand Prix champion Daniel Cormier stated that he is interested in coaching "The Ultimate Fighter" alongside UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Jones, however, doesn't appear fond of the idea.
UFC president Dana White has made it clear over the past couple of weeks that he's very interested in setting up a light-heavyweight showdown between the two, but for the matchup to occur, Cormier has to fight one more time under the Strikeforce banner per his current contract.
The former Olympic wrestler, Cormier, was recently scheduled to fight UFC heavyweight Frank Mir at a Strikeforce event on Nov. 3, but Mir injured himself during training camp, and was force out the contest. Eventually, after several more fighters were pulled from the event due to injuries, the Strikeforce Nov. 3 event was cancelled altogether.
As of now, Cormier is scheduled to fight on a Strikeforce event in 2013, but his opponent is unknown.

For a guy who was gifted a relatively quick and easy road to the top, Jon Jones sure is keen on telling everyone to earn their stripes and pay their dues.

Cormier needs to actually fight at 205 and see if he's as good at that weight as he is at Heavyweight before he starts calling out Jones.

I don't see it that way, if you were a champ of a major promotion, would you take a fight with a nobody, even though he is skilled? it doesn't make any sense for you whats so ever outside of testing yourself. You may say that he should test himself, but its not all about testing yourself, its also about making the most money you can in possibly a short career. You can't take your career for granted, even though he did go up fairly fast, his career can end in two years to some freak accident or something.
Nobody knows who Cormier is outside of hardcore MMA fans who watch both SF and the UFC, and those people are heavily out numbered by the casual fans of the UFC.
Not to mention that Cormier hasn't fought near 205 since his olympics or something like that, and when he did, he almost ruined his kidney with the weight cutting. Cormier is looking for a big payday in saying he wants to fight JBJ as much as JBJ is looking for a payday himself.

I think the entire "he isn't a big name in the UFC, and so he's automatically a nobody' line of reasoning is fairly lame, to be honest. I'm certain UFC only fans hadn't heard or seen much of Pride. Thank God such ignorant sentiment didn't rob us of quality bouts like Dan Henderson vs. Rampage/Anderson Silva and Wanderlei Silva vs. Chuck Liddell.
And naturally, all the respect in the world to guys like Rampage, Anderson, and Wanderlei for caring more about challenging fights than money and face value. You know, those chestnuts we ought to expect from true champions.

And yet we saw fighters come from other organizations to the UFC and not produce nearly the level of what made them famous outside of it. Its more about them coming into the UFC and proving they belong here, instead of being gifted a title without even fighting any of the other contenders.
Should Shogun have gone straight to a title fight in his first fight in the UFC? thank god he didn't because he looked horrible against Forrest.
Cormier doesn't deserve a fight whats so ever with JBJ, he hasn't fought at 205 in years. Why bring up JBJ when you're a HW? why not say Cain/JDS or some of the other big HW names.
He wants a big pay day.

Almost 3 years and 7 fights is quick and easy? I don't see those guys being "easy" when wins over four of them "earned" you a title shot if you were Anderson Silva(Bonnar), Shogun Rua(Vera), Lyoto Machida(Bader), and Rampage Jackson(Hamill).
The UFC needs to stop letting the other top ten guys dictate who is worthy of fighting them so that we can get some legitimate contenders.
Cormier should get a title shot....against Dos Santos not Jones.

Considering Jones had yet to face a top ten LHW when he was gifted a title shot, yes... I'd say quick and easy is accurate. And don't think I give Anderson Silva any less grief. Ed Soares and even Silva himself expect MW contenders to conquer the division before even mentioning the champion, which is ludicrous considering Anderson's path to the belt.
And you, Spec, are taking liberties with my initial statement. I didn't say that Cormier should get an immediate title shot, especially as he fights in a different weight class. I simply said that Jon Jones is unwilling to extend anyone the opportunities that he was given coming up. It's a good thing Shogun didn't feel the same way about name value, otherwise he might have refused Jones as a replacement.

Ryan Bader was ranked 6th/7th when he fought Jon Jones. Which was higher than Couture(15th) (Machida), Hamill (14th) (Rampage), and Johnson(UR) (Belfort). Jones was the third option when he fought Shogun, Rampage or Rashad could have taken that fight. Rampage couldn't cut the weight, Rashad had the same injury JDS and Maynard had when they fought for their belts. And Jon Jones took the fight on short notice, less notice than Machida and Rua who turned down their shots last month.
It's absurd to act like Jon Jones had his title shot handed to him, especially when you compare him to his contemporaries.
