Anderson wants GSP, says he's semi-retired...but is fighting for 5 more years.
Quote:
“I’m old, guys. I’m getting old. I’m retired. I’m nearly there. I’ve only got another five years. I think [GSP] would be a great challenge for me. I prefer him over Jon Jones. He’s smaller. It’ll be a little bit easier. I’ll be hit less.”
While talking to the media following last Saturday’s dominant win over Stephan Bonnar, the pound-for-pound king, Anderson Silva discussed whats next in super fights.
Is his assessment correct? Is GSP an easier bout than Jon Jones?

Kind of an odd series of comments. Basically saying he is near retirement but then saying he will fight another 5 years. At least he is honest about his reasons for wanting GSP, but it would seem that Anderson isn't as excited about challenging himself as he comes to the end (in five years???) of his career.
Still, a lot can happen if he really wants to stay in the game another 5 years. I honestly thought he only had 4-5 fights left.

Haha, oh Anderson.
I've sort of stopped caring about the politics and am just happy whenever he shows up and we get to watch him fight.
That really makes no sense.
And in all honesty, if GSP destroys Condit, the GSP war wagon will be back on in full force.
I kinda just wish Silva would retire so I don't have to see him lose!

I think he's trolling to be honest. Say things to bring himself down just for the lulz. I read that as "I feel freaking amazing, bring on GSP."

He's messing with everyone. He'll fight GSP, he'll fight Jon Jones, he'll fight anyone.
Anderson has two fights left on his contract and victories against the aforementioned opponents would probably be his ideal retirement party, the ultimate statement.

That kind of went over my head. After saying it in Anderson's voice with his limited English I think you guys are right. Sounds like he was just kidding around as he always does.

I dont want to say hes afraid of Jones... but its kind of sad that hes singling out GSP, especially because of his smaller frame.
Jones is clearly the better challenge for him, and I think the majority of fans have switched from waiting a GSP/Silva superfight to a Silva/Jones superfight.
GSP has plenty of fights left at WW. The only top 5 he has faced already is Fitch. Silva and Jones have cleaned out their divisions, GSP has not.

Basically, what I take from that is..., he's putting himself in the same position that Couture did. Only take interesting fights for the rest of his career. I actually wouldn't be surprised if, after he rapes Pissping, he vacates the MW title so that he can fight at whatever weight the most interesting fight comes at. Whether it's against an exciting 205'er, GSP at a catchweight, or Nick Diva either at a catchweight or 185. I definitely don't expect that to happen, but it wouldn't surprise me. I think Silva will fight for another 5 years, but at only 1, maybe 2 fights a year, and only against other huge names in the sport.

Dude, if you sit out for a year every other year there are bound to be guys to fight.
Jones has Hendo, Sonnen, maybe Tex. Maybe Gustaf. probably Cormier. Don't tell me Jones has cleaned his division out.
GSP and Silva have been the #1 and #2 for the last 5 years. Before Jones was even relevant they were the consensus 2 best fighters. It is more fitting that if any super fight happens first it is that one.
