Jon Fitch is a different animal altogether. He won't want to grapple with Maia, and can probably keep it standing as long as he wants. So it'll come down to whose striking is less bad.
Maia might try to pull guard though, I don't think that would work out too well for him if he does.

Maia could absolutely get Fitch down.

Interesting, I was just thinking how he would fair against the top ten.
10 - BJ Penn - Fun fight, BJ might pull off the upset
09 - Ellenberger - I give Jake 2 minutes he'll look like Story/Kym
08 - Kampmann - I could see this being a boring BJJ match
07 - Fitch - might be the 2nd best fight of his career
06 - MacDonald - I think Rory knocks him out
05 - Koscheck - Koscheck will either outpoint him with the weak standup and 30 second end of round TD, or Maia will get an end of round sub.
04 - Diaz - Hell of a fun scrap, I think Diaz takes it maybe even finishes it in the third.
03 - Hendricks - could be a KO, could get outstruck by Maia
02 - Condit - FOTN, I image both guys sweeping and striking for15 minutes
01 - GSP - likely out jabbed to death
Wins - Ellenberger, Kampmann, Fitch, Hendricks
Close - BJ, Koscheck, Condit
Loses - GSP, Macdonald, Diaz

Ellenberger would kill Maia he has some of the best TDD in the UFC.
People need to stop acting like that Stungun takedown means anything; the guys body essentially seized up so bad he had to tap out. Stungun would probably beat Maia if they had a rematch.
I think Fitch could probably out strike him and avoid most of his takedowns and not get submitted. Diaz would win or lose depending on the gameplan Maia decides to use.

I think Diaz could come out fast and eve lose the 1st. But still out-last him for the 2nd and 3rd rounds.
I think both matchups could be interesting. Anytime you have an ace BJJ player, their are always fun matchups.

I love both matchups. I think Maia beats Diaz by just being a bad matchup for him, the takedown would come easy and Diaz aint submitting Maia from his guard.
The Fitch fight could go either way, I doubt Fitch wants anything to do with Maias grappling so he'd try to keep it standing, and maybe succeed in making it a bad kickboxing match that could go either way.

I think Maia could UD Diaz for sure, but he has to completely commit to clinch and takedowns because Diaz would maul him standing. As for the Fitch fight, I am not completely sure about it. I have never in my life been impressed with Fitch's striking but Maia's is nothing to brag about either. That is a close one.

That happened as Maia was taking him down. Maia already had the body lock and the leverage around his own center of gravity. Stinger or no stinger, Kim was going down at that point.

I don't see why Fitch couldn't ground and grind Maia for three rounds for the UD. Fitch has outstanding submission defense. Maia would obviously be the perfect guy to test that defense and he might be the one to submit Fitch so it would be an interesting fight. Still, I see Fitch getting the decision.
Nick however would totally obliterate Maia in my opinion. By the second round Maia would be gassed and an easy target for Nick's boxing.
Maia is the perfect antidote for the wrestle-boxer-disease though.

People are getting carried away. Diaz would blow Maia out of the water, Ellenberger/Maia would look like Marquardt/Maia did, and Fitch would Fitch him. His only real win at 170 is Rick Story....
Top notch Jiu-Jitsu, obviously, but average takedowns and mediocre striking at best will only get you so far.
