You might just be right. Right now, the middleweight division doesn't appeal to me as much as say, the lightweight division. In the middleweight division, they try to hype guys up like Boetsch, Bisping, and Weidman. However, does anyone truly believe that these guys stand a legit chance of defeating Anderson Silva? In the lightweight division, you have guys like Cerrone, Pettis, Diaz, Maynard and many more who have real potential to become champ. This keeps the division interesting as you want to keep an eye on these people making their way to the top.
However, it kind of goes both way. Dominant champs make the division look boring. Yet when they fight, I get the most excited. I would much rather see Anderson Silva fight than Ben Henderson. You want to see what the dominant champ can pull off this time. Even if you aren't a fan, you want to see the dominant champ fall. This adds excitement to the fight.
For the lightweight title fights, yes the title might change hands, which makes the fight kind of interesting. However, when the title keeps switching hands, you get the illusion that the division is so weak that none of the fighters are good enough to hold the belt for any significant period of time ( Not that it is true ). Also, a change in title holder would be less shocking as the fans already expected it.
