Big Nog fought Herman with a broken rib.
Directly translated using Google translate:
Quote:
Rodrigo Minotauro is synonymous to overcome, and he just added another feat to his resume. The heavyweight, who had his arm broken by Frank Mir in his last fight in December 2011, agreed to face Dave Herman with only one month's notice at UFC Rio 3, but nobody knew that he fractured his rib a week after saying "yes "to the organization.
"Fractured my rib three weeks ago on my right side. I went to the doctor, I took a local anesthetic to be able to train and when he (Dave Herman) gave me a shot there, gave me a shortness of breath and took a swung from one side to the other to see what had happened, had broken. There was a big break, but got scared when the kick hit him, "said the Bahia, in an interview with Sensei SporTV.
Minotaur Dave Herman finished with an armbar in the second round, earning his first win with the Jiu-Jitsu since winning the interim title of the organization, when he beat Tim Sylvia with a guillotine.

Anyone thinks it is possible?

He did look real soft at the mid section. Usually he is more defined.

Here comes a more refined translation of what he said.
"I did break my rib three weeks ago, on my right side. I went to the doctor, took a local anaesthetic so I could train and when he(Dave Herman) kicked me there, I've lost my breath and swung side to side to check what happened, IF it was broken. It wasn't a big crack, but I was scared when his kick landed", said the "bahiano"(ppl natural from Bahia State, in Brazil), during an interview for Sensei SporTV.
Minotauro has finished Dave Herman via armlock on the second round, getting his first Jiu-Jitsu victory since he won the interim organization title by submitting Tym Sylvia via guillotine choke.
And ppl think this legendary warrior and highly respected person would be as cheap as fixing a fight...yet supporting others proved to be using illegal performance enhancing drugs or just petending to be kings of the cage by just screaming it out loud to a title shot. Yes, it's sad, but maybe we are going downhill already...

I have a hard time believing this as I've had a busted up rib once and it was hard to move around, let alone breath or do any type of exercise. Maybe 3 weeks was enough time for it to heal somewhat, as I can't really remember how bad the pain was weeks into it.
But doesn't he have to be medically examined before the fight? they wouldn't allow him to fight with a fractured rib.

I highly doubt he fought with a broken rib.

I was thinking the same thing. I would think that this doctor's medical license could be on the line (it should be).
If big nog got injured seriously, how could the UFC & athletic commission not go after this doctor for giving him an anesthetic to continue to train?
Also, there's a problem with the way medical clearance is done if you can get cleared to fight with a broken rib.

The fight was in Brazil. Do they even have an athletic commission?

The UFC brings in there own people, I'm sure, I know they do their own drug testing in England and other places overseas.

Perhaps it was only slightly cracked and it healed a bit in 3 weeks.
But are we really just going to call him a liar? Why would he say he had a fractured rib if he wasn't told he did? He won easily after rushing back from a destroyed arm, I doubt he needs this to be validated?
Not going to call a guy like Nog a liar. He has no reason to make things up.
Do they X-Ray them? Do they check every single bone in his body to see if it is fractured or not? If he fought with it is there not a chance that he did a good job of acting fine when a doctor checked him? Is it not possible that the Brazilian venue pulled some strings or hid it a bit?
Guy have fought on partially torn legiments. So i don't see how this is impossible.
Odd that people who have zero clue, weren't there, have never talked to any of his camp just call him a liar. He has nothing to lie about. He is mentally stable. We aren't talking Mayhem Miller here.
