Luiz Cane released from UFC contract
Quote:
Luiz Cane entered UFC 153 in a must-win position. After losing three of four at light heavyweight, the Brazilian striker decided to drop to the middleweight division and was matched up with Chris Camozzi. Unfortunately for him, he dropped a unanimous decision. And according to his manager Alex Davis (via Tatame), he has been released from his UFC contract as well. Davis also said that Cane has had to undergo two knee surgeries lately and that he will be back with some wins outside the organization.
Cane (12-5, 1 NC) entered the UFC back in 2007, losing by disqualification to James Irvin after an illegal knee. A three-fight win streak after that had people thinking he was going to be a contender, but the four losses in his next five bouts sealed his fate. He got off to a slow start against Camozzi, showing little urgency and acting a bit gunshy with his striking. He had a better third round, but it was too late by then.
Nonetheless, he's a solid middleweight and I wouldn't be surprised at all to see him back. In the meantime, World Series of Fighting might be interested in his services.

He looked good at first, then he didn't fight for ages and he came back and looked really gun shy, not surprising IMO.
Good signing for Bellator though.

Not surprising. He's looked awful ever since Lil Nog took his soul.

Hey Cane, keep this knee surgeries matters between you and your doctor or some may think it's just an excuse. The truth can have a negative impact even for the best around here. After all, what's a knee surgery, anyway?

Inactivity stopped the guy hitting his stride, really sucks as I rated the dude.
We'll see him back I'm sure.

Cane became a bad fighter when his bad striking defense caught up to him and he became gun shy as a result.
He should be good on the B circuit...unless he goes to the C circuit...aka...domestic.

Cane of course is one of "The 23" - that is, the (at least) 23 current or former UFC light heavyweights who have moved down to middleweight over the past five years.
And it may soon become "The 24" if Fabio Maldonado joins them, as he is now seriously talking about doing.

Very much deserved. I loved the fight against Nedkov where he tried to intimidate him by showing his mouthguard with the Brazilian flag on it. Nedkov just smiled and then finished Cane in hilarious fashion.
