Oh sorry, I must not own a copy of the "official biggest waste of talent handbook" that you're clearly reading out of that makes your statements factual and my opinions on the matter incorrect.

Last time I checked I'm allowed to have an opinion on who is the biggest waste of talent, mine is Brandon Vera.

If Brandon Vera bulked up and stayed at HW he might have been a UFC HW champion. He could have defeated Nog or Lesnar, he could have jumped to Strikeforce and taken out Fedor. He could have been a champion but he chose just to be enhancement talent for future and former ones.

Again, like Vera...he just sucks.
What is the point in giving our opinions if you are simply going to wave away our suggestions? Besides, on this occasion I believe you are the one who is in the minority with your opinion.

Vera has always had solid stand-up and his wrestling and grappling have been more than competent. The issue has been the mental side of things. TO say that Vera lacks talent is stupid. This is a DISCUSSION board and you asked for our opinions so show a little respect for your fellow posters.

I have labelled your opinion as stupid which is fair because I didn't start this thread asking for the opinions of others and your attitude stinks quite frankly.

Mark Kerr could've been a world champion if it wasn't for drugs. The documentary The Smashing Machine made me tear up.

Lee Murray. Probably would have been the #2 MW in the UFC for a long time, easily far more talented than the likes of Marquardt, Leites and Cote who were the top contenders in the division not so long ago.

Pretty much flushed his life down the drain though.

Not really. Apparently he has a comfortable time in the Moroccan jail, getting special treatment (not sexual :P) and when he comes out he still has millions of pounds hidden which were never recovered. He'll come out of jail as a middle aged multi-millionare living an exotic lifestyle in a beautiful country.

Then don't post in this topic.

Like I said, Brandon Vera has always been extremely overrated.

The dude wrestled a bit in the army and they acted like he was a D1 calibre wrestler despite having terrible takedown defense most of his career. His standup was just average, especially his defense...

Brandon Vera was nothing more than a hype train that got derailed, not a waste of talent.

He was never that talented to begin with. He beat two scrubs and an injured Frank Mir after the accident and people acted like he was the shit.

As far as my "opinion" it's pretty much reality...I know you might not even know who the guy is, but it was pretty sad considering his natural ability to submit dudes in the cage.

Definitely more talented than a Joe Lauzon...if he would've took his career more seriously and dropped to 155.

Lee Murray was a stud too.

But definitely a thug who had outside interests other than fighting.

In terms of just natural fighting talent, Lee Murray was pretty exceptional...reminds of me of Nick Diaz in terms of just being an natural in the cage.

I'd have to say Melvin Guillard. The kid has ridiculous speed, but unlike some lightweights who are really fast, he also has a lot of power to balance that. Speed, power, athleticism, and experience is a great recipe for a great fighter. His hands have the potential to knock out any lightweight, and his wrestling isn't bad either when he uses it.

His physical attributes may have been good, but his mental game has always been lacking. With all of the experience he has fighting, you'd think he wouldn't make all of these amateur mistakes, but he always finds a way to ruin things for him once he starts to build up momentum. Whether it be in or outside of the cage, he's his own worst enemy. He has some wins over solid competition, but he's always just one loss away from starting back at the bottom of the ladder. A lot of fights have been very winnable for him if he just stayed focus and learned from his mistakes. If he had the mental game of a champion, he would have been a champion by now in my opinion, or at least would have fought for the title.

That's why he's been a waste of talent from my point of view.

The biggest question with Guillard is he seemed to be reaching his peak and was even in title contention at one point and then he abruptly left Jackson's and went back to being Melivin Guillard.
